Activity 2

Ecosystem Finance manages an array of mechanisms, including grants, loans and other types of funding provided to a wide range of partners, from government agencies and civil society institutions to small businesses and local communities. These financial mechanisms are designed to directly finance conservation in ways that benefit nature and people alike. We awarded more than $19.3 million in grants to non-governmental and private-sector partner organizations globally to stem the tide of biodiversity loss, ensure healthy communities and protect the ecosystem services upon which they depend.

Activity 3

Science & Knowledge develops the social, economic, and natural science that underpins CI's core proposition that nature is essential for human well-being and development; this science also helps set CI's priorities. Our focus is on understanding and quantifying the contribution of nature to human well-being, setting conservation priorities based on ongoing measurement and analysis of the health of ecosystems and the provision of ecosystem services that support human well-being, projecting impacts of global change on natural systems, developing green economy scenario options for CI priority land and seascapes, and supporting CI programs globally with applied science and capacity building. During the year, they produced research and (continued on Schedule O)analysis on the linkages among ecosystems, ecosystem services and human well-being, used the results to address threats to ecosystems and their services, and made the scientific findings available for the benefit of the global community by a variety of means, including the publication of 49 scientific articles and books.
