Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To promote the development of hydropower as a clean, renewable, and reliable form of energy. National hydro association (nha) set a vision to double the current contribution of hydropower to the energy mix.nha continues to press for policies that recognize the industry's overall environmental benefit, including the 225 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions that it helps avoid each year. Nha seeks renewable energy bonus allowance programs, credit parity, regulatory improvements, research and development dollars, and other policies that reflect the industry's energy and environmental contributions and address the challenges to development.nha works closely with the federal energy regulatory commission (ferc), resource agencies, and other regulators and stakeholders to represent the industry's position in all issues.

To champion water power as a clean, sustainable energy resource.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6

Nha's membership consists of more than 350 organizations including public utilities, investor owned utilities, independent power producers, equipment manufacturers, environmental engineering consultants and attorneys spanning the breadth of the conventional industry and new emerging waterpower technologies.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

The election of officers shall take place at the winter board of directors meeting. A majority vote of a quorum of the directors present shall constitute an election.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

Nha's draft federal form 990 is reviewed by the president and ceo with concurrence of the elected treasurer prior to filing with the internal revenue service.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Nha has a conflict of interest policy which all board members are subject to. All board members of nha are notified of the conflict of interest policy at time of their election and they are required to confirm agreement with the terms on an annual basis. Essentially, it requires that should a conflict of interest arise with any member of the board of directors, that member is required to disclose it to the full board of directors for total transparency. The policy is limited to full disclose, not what action must be taken in considering the conflict. The board of directors has the option at that point to act as it sees fit to either lay conditions on the action, or continue as the conflict has been fully vetted in discussion, or deny the action being requested that led to the conflict.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

Compensation for nha's president and ceo is based on performance review which is conducted by the elected chairman of the board with the concurrence of the executive committee and then reported to the board of directors for input and concurrence. A compensation committee periodically evaluates the salary and benefits plan to determine its competitiveness with comparable positions within the region.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Nha makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public upon request.
