“Afp dc is a membership organization, the categories of membership are: professional: open to persons who hold some degree of responsibility directly for fundraising, subscribe to the afp code of ethical principles and standard ("code") and its bylaws, promote the donor bill of rights and, are employed or have been employed by an institution or organization that provides benefits to society. Young professionals: open to persons who hold some degree of responsibility directly for fundraising, subscribe to the afp code of ethical principles and standard ("code") and its bylaws, promote the donor bill of rights and are employed or have been employed by an institution or organization that provides benefits to society. Membership in this category is limited to persons 30 years or younger. Associates: open to persons who are engaged in fields related to fundraising, volunteers, or others who have mutual interests with fundraising professionals, and who subscribe to the afp code of ethical principles and standard ("code") and its bylaws and promote the donor bill of rights.”

“The board of directors establishes the policies governing the conduct of elections. At the annual meetings members elect the number of directors as necessary to fill vacancies of directors whose terms expire as of such meeting.”

“The general membership must approve any changes to its bylaws.”

“The draft 990 is received by management, the president and the treasurer in electronic form from the accountants. Management, the president and the treasurer review the draft and pose any questions to the accountants. The 990 is then forwarded to the board by electronic copy for approval/review. The president signs and releases the return if there are no comments from the board.”

“Members of the board are required to sign a document stating that they have no conflicts of interest between them and any outside parties that would diminish their capacity to serve; this procedure is done on an annual basis. Any proposed activity or transaction which presents or may be a conflict of interest, shall be handled as follows: a. All actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest must be fully disclosed to the chair of the chapter, who will make the initial determination as to whether such conflict is not significant or should be referred to the board for review; b. If referred to the board, the person with an actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest is expected to recuse him or herself from part or all of the deliberation and from the vote on such matter, if any; c. The board will review whether the terms, conditions and consideration with respect to such transaction or activity represent a conflict of interest or are fair, reasonable and in the best interest of the chapter. The board of directors shall determine by vote or consensus whether a conflict exists and in the case of an existing conflict, whether the contemplated transaction or activity should be authorized as just, fair, and reasonable. The decision of the board of directors on these matters is made in the board's sole discretion. All members of the board of directors and staff will be asked to sign this document upon the beginning of their service with the chapter, and should make disclosure of any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts during the course of their terms on the board.”
