Activity 2

We work to increase educational opportunities amongst youth and adults in the cocoa-growing regions of Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana. Between October 2009 and December 2010, IFESH volunteer educators in both Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana trained and impacted over 2,100 in-service and pre-service teachers in addition to 86 school administrators and inspectors. Each year as a result of this training, nearly 80,000 children will receive an improved education. In addition, IFESH conducted 8 community awareness raising events; trained 8 community learning centers staff, and enrolled 1,600 learners in ongoing functional literacy classes.

Activity 3

Through our Conflict Abatement through Local Mitigation project, we seek to prevent and reduce conflict by strengthening the capacity of Nigerian society to address the factors responsible for violent conflict. Last year we developed protocols for early warning and rapid response to sporadic and ongoing violence. Conflict Management and Mitigation Regional Councils were trained on how to carry out interventions, including preventing, mitigating and managing of conflicts. We continued the support of 105 Peace Clubs, 35 Peace Zones and Community Youth Associations and community outreach activities in designated schools in the Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Rivers and Delta States of Nigeria.
