Mission

Pyramid atlantic is a nonprofit contemporary art center fostering the creative disciplines of papermaking, printmaking, and book arts within a collaborative community. They equip, educate, and exhibit in their historic hyattsville home.

We are one of the few arts organizations in the country that has printmaking, papermaking, and bookmaking under one roof. Our programs, facility, and expertise equip, educate, and exhibit artists.

Pyramid atlantic is a nonprofit contemporary art center fostering the creative disciplines of papermaking, printmaking, and book arts within a collaborative community. They equip, educate, and exhibit in their historic hyattsville home.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

The facility was improved by the addition of an iconic exterior neon sign "art" which makes claim to our identity, interior wayfinding signage, interior painting, and an expansion of the paper studio that increases access for artists. Programming was grown with a larger exhibition season (from 7 to 11 exhibitions), new and increased numbers of educational workshops and outreach opportunities, two new artist fellowship opportunities, and the first book arts fair in hyattsville. These improvements and investments show positive change in the organization's financials as well, with revenue showing a 24% increase over fy17. In addition to the income, participation numbers had incredible increases. Pyramid doubled its workshop registrations, increased the number of youth served by 33%, and its total participation numbers by 37% over fy17. Fy18 was a fantastic year, putting pyramid is in a wonderful position with strong board and staff leadership, greater local support in its new home in prince george's county maryland, and increased participation from a diverse constituency in programs at all levels.

Pyramid atlantic receives donated art work throughout the year. Pyramid maintains two classes of art work. Items recorded as inventory are generally made at the organization's studios and donated to the organization for possible resale. Contributed inventory was 0 during fy 18. Items recorded as archive inventory are kept in perpetuity as educational and exhibit pieces. During fy18 1,175 of art was donated as archive inventory. All artworks further the mission of pyramid atlantic by showcasing artists with a focus primarily on the on the disciplines of printmaking, papermaking, and bookmaking. Having artwork on hand to display and educate provides the abilty to make printmaking, papermaking, and bookmaking accessible to more than just artists and academics.

The organization is exempt from income taxes under 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code on all but its unrelated business income. The organization is not classified as a private foundation by the internal revenue service. The organization had no unrelated business income for the years ended june 30, 2018. Consequently, there is no provision for income taxes. The organization adopted the provisions of fasb asc accounting standard codification 740-10, "accounting for uncertainty in income taxes," on july 1, 2009 having no significant impact on its financial statements. The provisions clarify the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an organization's financial statements. Tax return filings are subject to examination by the irs, generally for three years after they are filed. The organization's tax returns for tax years ending before june 30, 2015 are no longer subject to examination.
