Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The manufacturing institute, the education and workforce partner of the nam, is dedicated to supporting the manufacturing workforce of today and growing the manufacturing workforce of tomorrow. It does so through a variety of programs designed to excite, educate and empower with a particular focus in four key areas: women, veterans, youth and skills training. The institute also serves as the leading authority on data and research for the industry through its center for manufacturing research, closely examining issues of importance to manufacturers both to help understand them and illuminate what needs to be done to solve them.

The national association of manufacturers appoints the members of the manufacturing institute's board of directors.

Form 990 is reviewed by the executive director and treasurer, and then reviewed and approved by the chair and a second director.

Officers, directors, and key employees have to complete an annual conflict of interest form disclosing any conflicts or potential conflicts, and the forms are reviewed by the mi's general counsel. Any concerns are reported to the mi board by the mi general counsel.

All employees of the mi are compensated by the national association of manufacturersand costs are reimbursed by the mi. The executive director's annual compensation is approved by the mi board. In addition to the annual performance appraisal system, the board reviews data for various sources, including other similar organizations, third party consultants, and other industry data, to determine the compensation.

The compensation of all other individuals listed in form 990, part vii, section a, as well as form 990, schedule j, part ii is paid by the national association of manufacturers and other than keith smith reimbursed 100% by the manufacturing institute. 85% of keith smith's compensation is reimbursed by the manufacturing institute.
