“The association has an executive committee, which consists of the association's officers and the immediate past president. The president is the chair of the executive committee. The full executive board, during intervals between regular board meetings, may delegate to the executive committee any or all of the powers of the executive board in the management of the business of the association. The executive committee also is responsible for investigating project needs, as well as the establishment, supervision, and evaluation of such projects; it also is tasked with establishing procedures for approving proposed projects, setting up budgets, and developing and implementing personnel procedures and negotiating salary agreements. The executive committee submits a written report of its activities at each executive board meeting, as well as a written report on projects at the association's annual meeting.”

“THE ASSOCIATION HAS SEVERAL CLASSES OF MEMBERS: ACTIVE (REGULAR) MEMBERSHIP: OPEN TO ANY PHYSICIAN WHO IS A GRADUATE OF THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE AT HOWARD UNIVERSITY. ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP: OPEN TO ANY FORMER STUDENT OF THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE AT HOWARD UNIVERSITY WHO MAY HAVE DISCONTINUED STUDIES, OF HIS OR HER OWN ACCORD, WHILE IN GOOD STANDING, AFTER SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THE SECOND YEAR OF MEDICAL SCHOOL. ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP IS ALSO OPEN TO ANY PERSON ASSOCIATED WITH THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE IN A TEACHING POSITION. ASSOCIATE MEMBERS ARE GRANTED ALL PRIVILEGES OF MEMBERSHIP OTHER THAN VOTING OR HOLDING OFFICE. LIFE MEMBERSHIP: (A) EARNED LIFE MEMBERSHIP IS ATTAINED BY AN ACTIVE MEMBER WHO HAS BEEN A MEMBER FOR A MINIMUM OF 30 YEARS AND HAS REACHED THE AGE OF 70; (B) REGULAR LIFE MEMBERSHIP IS ATTAINED BY ANY ACTIVE MEMBER UPON PAYMENT OF THE LIFE MEMBERSHIP FEE; (C) MERITORIOUS LIFE MEMBERSHIP IS ATTAINED BY ANY MEMBER WHO HAS MADE AN UNUSUAL CONTRIBUTION TO FURTHER THE OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION - AS VOTED UPON BY THE ASSOCIATION'S ACTIVE MEMBERS. HONORARY MEMBERSHIP: OPEN TO ANY PERSON WHO HAS RENDERED OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE ASSOCIATION BUT IS NOT OTHERWISE ELIGIBLE FOR MERITORIOUS LIFE MEMBERSHIP - AS VOTEd UPON BY THE ASSOCIATION'S ACTIVE MEMBERS.”

The officers and the board are selected by the association membership by way of a board development committee, which selects the nominees, which are then voted upon by the entire membership by mail ballot.”
