Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

The utah state legislature has designated the fort douglas military museum as the states official military museum. This recognition strengthens the museums efforts to preserve and interpret utahs rich military history, educate visitors about the militarys role in the growth and development throughout the state, and to engage communities and generations in honoring all utahns who have served, continue to serve and those who support the armed forces. Directed by: beau james burgess, museum director / museum and historical collections curator location: 32 potter street, salt lake city, ut 84113 / public hours: noon to 5 p.m., tuesday through saturday visitation: 6,072 total (4,174 adults, 1,898 children) including visitors from other states and foreign countries. During 2022, the museum was back to pre-pandemic programming with special events and community engagements. Highlights include the annual post cemetery tour with living historians; introduction of dark tours, a series of walking tours sharing tales of the districts shadier side of history; partnering with utah state universitys bringing war home roadshows by collecting community stories and artifacts; hosting the deseret experimental opera companys mushroom murders based on buffalo soldiers stationed at the fort during the 1890s; conducting a civil war day 1862 with living history row and time-period talks; and finally, hosting the national reunion of wwii-era 104th national timberwolf pups association. The museum continues to collect and preserve artifacts, provide assistance with historical research inquiries, conduct community lectures, and provide facilities operations for military- and veteran-oriented organizations. We continue to cooperate with established partnerships to engage the public through walking tours, virtual presentations, outside gatherings and in- person support where we can.
