It is expected that every employee will hold the interest of the MAWA to be primary in all related business and ethical relationships. MAWA employees have parttime or full jobs elsewhere. The organization has a conflict of interest policy to ensure that there is no potential conflict with another job including the acceptance of any type of gratuity , which conflicts or might reasonably be thought by others to conflict with their proper performance of MAWA duties and responsibilities.MAWA may require employees to sign a separate MAWA conflict of interest statement to identify and address any possible conflicts.

The Salary of the top management staff, Melissa Nambangi, was determined by the board of directors on her hiring. It was based on the comparison made wih salaries of executive directors of similar sized organizations and the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits salary review. The current salary reflects a revision of the salary made by the board of directors in 2022 to catch up with bi-annual 2% increases which had not been applied for several years.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0With a $171,000 annual grant from the Department of Health, MAWA addresses the major teen pregnancy disparity among Pan-African girls by providing a proven culturally adapted version of an evidence-based group sexual health education intervention, the highly regarded Becoming a Responsible Teen (BART) Program, for 420 Pan-African girls and 180 boys during the 4-year project. The focus of the program is on: providing accurate knowledge of human sexuality, how to avoid pregnancy and HIV/STDs and dispelling common misconceptions and myths in the African community which result in early unwanted pregnancy; delaying the onset of sexual activity when possible; reducing the frequency of sex, increasing condom use, and reducing unprotected sex for those choosing to be sexually active; building the girls refusal skills and ability to avoid risky situations and handle pressures to engage in unwanted or unprotected sex and reducing boys likelihood to apply such pressure; develo
