“Creative carlsbad arts council is devoted to supporting and strengthening community wide arts and culture organizations to ensure quality arts experiences for carlsbad and surrounding areas.”

“1. Creative carlsbad has developed and arts & culture district in downtown carlsbad. The pearl of the pecos arts & culture district is a diverse and thriving epicenter for arts and culture in carlsbad which supports art education and economic development. Art experiences, availability, and opportunity are an integral part of maintaining a healthy community, city pride, and a reflection of our rich diversity. The arts & culture district is a mecca for cultural and creative experiences by day and an entertainment district by night. The reach of this development has stretched far beyond the borders of carlsbad and the surrounding areas. Visitors and tourists of the carlsbad caverns now have more of a reason to spend multiple nights in our community- enjoying carlsbad for more than our national park. It has stimulated local economy, and given the residents of carlsbad options for entertainment and artistic/cultural experiences that carlsbad has never seen before. An estimated 30,000 people have been affected by the arts & culture district. 2. Creative carlsbad has developed relationships with local artists and has given them an opportunity to showcase their works as well as grow their businesses. We do this through several avenues. Community events, such as heritagefest, night of lights, and farmer's market (featuring an artist of the week at each market) are all avenues in which local artists are given the opportunity to share their talents with carlsbad. We also offer social media promotion, and a calendar of events/activities free of charge to all area artists and creative enterprises. The calendar can be found at www.pearlofthepecos.org. Workshops are also periodically offered throughput the year for children- including visual arts, music, creative writing, dance, and theatre. These workshops are offered free of charge, and are a key component to arts education in carlsbad. We also host public meetings monthly, creating a platform for community members to share and collaborate with one another. Including festival attendees, workshops, and artists, we estimate that at least 25,000 people have been affected by these efforts. 3. Creative carlsbad also works closely with the city of carlsbad to develop historical, cultural, and artistic assets. One of the projects that we assist in the development and fundraising efforts for is the rehabilitation of the cavern theatre downtown. Currently in phase ii of the project, the rehabilitation is still under way- a new roof and hvac system are being installed during this phase. Creative carlsbad also participates in the promotion of one of carlsbad's greatest assets, the halagueno arts park. We have teamed up with the carlsbad museum and art centre to assist in the execution and promotion of summertime movies and concerts in the park. We also host a page on our website, www.pearlofthepecos.org, devoted to the park, generating and promoting the usage and awareness of this incredible sculpture garden/park. Creative carlsbad works closely with carlsbad mainstreet as well, continuously working to improve and enrich our downtown businesses. Currently a mural project is underway, in which the talent of local artists is being utilized and implemented. These community relationships and work towards a more vibrant carlsbad have reached the entire community of at least 40,000 people.”
