Mission

The Charles Hamilton Houston Foundation, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization which provides a continuum of programs, service, and mentorship to facilitate academic, leadership and professional development to prepare boys and young men of color for academic success and the competitive workforce.

Our mission is to empower boys and young men of color, fostering their social, academic, and economic success through comprehensive leadership and professional development programs. These initiatives aim to equip them with the skills and strategies necessary for successful transitions into college and career pathways, ensuring economic stability and mobility.

ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we were unable to file our tax return by the required deadline. We respectfully request that any penalties associated with the late filing be abated for the following reasons:(1) Our Executive Director serves on a voluntary basis and is responsible for the overall management of the organization, including program delivery and accounting. Despite his dedication, the demands of this role, coupled with his full-time employment, have significantly strained his capacity to manage all administrative tasks within the designated timeframe. (2) In addition to his volunteer work with our organization, the Executive Director holds a full-time job, which requires significant time and attention. Balancing the responsibilities of a full-time job with the volunteer duties of managing a nonprofit organization has proven to be exceptionally challenging. (3) The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has further complicated our operations. The additional workload and unforeseen challenges posed by the pandemic have required substantial time and resources, diverting attention from administrative tasks, including the timely preparation and filing of our tax return. We have always strived to comply with all IRS requirements and deadlines. This delay is not indicative of a habitual pattern of non-compliance but rather an isolated incident resulting from the extraordinary circumstances outlined above. To prevent future delays, we are in the process of implementing improved internal controls and seeking additional volunteer support to ensure timely compliance with all filing requirements.
