“Mission Statement:To benefit society by promoting the availability of and reimbursement for amino acid-based elemental formulas for children who are unable to consume a natural, life-sustaining diet due to various allergies or diseases. Program Service Accomplishments:Childrens MAGIC US actively lobbied in West Virginia and Utah. Ultimately these state legislature lobbying efforts were successful in securing a pilot study in Utah mandating the coverage of medical foods and formulas for a specific subset of child patients with various allergies, digestive disorders, diseases or inborn errors of metabolism who need medical nutrition to survive and thrive and to thereby increase the availability of medical foods and/or medical formula for children who rely on them. Childrens MAGIC U.S. began pre-work for lobbying efforts in West Virginia and New York, to get that legislation passed during the 2018 legislative season. The purpose of these state legislature lobbying efforts was to ultimately secure legislation mandating the coverage of medical foods and formulas for child patients with various allergies, digestive disorders, diseases or inborn errors of metabolism who need medical nutrition to survive and thrive and to thereby increase the availability of medical foods and/or medical formula for children who rely on them. Childrens MAGIC U.S. representatives met and communicated with medical food manufactures Nutricia North America to increase understanding of the necessity of medical food/formula for children. Childrens MACIG U.S. staff managed and maintained a comprehensive website providing information about the impact that a lack of accessibility to medical nutrition has on children who are dependent upon it. Childrens MAGIC U.S. promoted grass roots efforts in support of coverage equality by utilizing our partners networks of parents who could communicate with other affected parents in their state and their elected officials regarding their childs need for medical food/formula and testified before legislative bodies regarding this need. MAGIC staff also developed and/or deepened and strengthened its coalition with other organizations (APFED and iFPIES Association, FPIES Foundation, NASPHAGAN and NORD).”
