| In the area of basketball our program is focused on understanding creating an opportunity for kids of all ages fall in love with the game and all the joy it brings when playing on a team and reaching goals. We have historically hosted camps, clinics, and tournaments. We held a weekly mentoring opportunity for a group of approximately 25 junior high kids to play during lunch and discussed school etiquette, basketball fundamentals and focused on team dynamics of basketball. The Fresno schoolwide junior high basketball tournament we host brings 8 different schools along with over 100 participants in an organized two-day tournament. We also hosted a 3 day basketball clinic that consisted of 60 from ages 6-12 the summer. The are many objectives that we strive to meet when taking the micro and macro approach. We try and explain that playing basketball helps grow teamwork, encourages creativity, incorporates full range of motion in exercise, fosters community, boosts confidence, develops passion and diligence, and strengthens memory. We have a proven track record of helping host clinics, camps and tournaments and many parents appreciate the application of playing a sport, because it helps build discipline in other areas of the kids lives. The following are examples of estimated statistics. -Out of the 100 students that played in the basketball tournament at Baird School, it was the 1st time many of the student participated in a team basketball tournament in Fresno Unified School.-Out of the 100 students that played in the chess tournament at Lowell School, it was their 1st time playing other teams outside of their school division.-Out of the 100 students that played in the basketball tournament at Baird School, it was their 1st time getting exposed to basketball tournament etiquette.-During the basketball clinic, it was the 1st time the half kids were introduced to basketball and drills.-During the basketball clinic, it was the more than half of the students were introduced to defense in basketball for the first time.-At the end of the clinic, all the students felt like they all had basic understanding of the game of basketball.-During lunchtime basketball the 25 students felt a connection to the mentoring, and it helped to create a positive experience at lunch | - | $13,130 |
| In the area of chess our program is focused on creating a learning environment to help facilitate the basic understanding of chess and help build confidence in encouraging students to participate in clinics, camps and tournaments. With covid restrictions we had to pull back from larger group tournaments like we have successfully held in the past and instead we hosted an elementary tournament and held chess clinics. The equipment and basic understanding can be a hurdle for many kids we serve and in many cases, many of the kids have never played in a tournament or even know what tournament rules are in the game of chess. We held a chess clinic in the summer for approximately 30 kids ranging from ages 6-12 and it ran for 3 days and the parent were very happy with the outcomes. We are also involved with a chess club that meets weekly at local elementary school consisting of approximately 27 students we held a tournament for the kids. The opportunity to provide food and trophies to youth players helps give a fun playing environment and long-lasting love for the game of chess. The are many objectives that we strive to meet when taking the micro and macro approach. We try and explain that playing chess helps sharpen the intellect, encourages creativity, calms the mind, fosters community, boosts confidence, develops passion and diligence, and strengthens memory. We have a proven track record of helping host clinics, camps and tournaments and many parents appreciate the application of playing a sport, because it helps build discipline in other areas of the kids lives. Our tradition is to introduce the game of chess early at the elementary level because we know that students pick up the basics faster and we really feel like encouraging them to just play online and with another student or friends helps to gain confidence and reflect on strategy. The only way for student to get better is actually playing and our long-term goal is to add more tournaments and workshops for students to learn more since the covid restrictions are lifted. We are aware that transportation is an issue for many students and our goal is to host clinics and tournaments at their local school. The following are examples of estimated statistics. -Out of the 27 students that played in the chess tournament at Lowell Elementary, it was the 1st time many of the student participated in a chess tournament.-Out of the 27 students that played in the chess tournament at Lowell Elementary, it was their 1st time getting mentored and coached through the process of playing in a chess tournament.-Out of the 27 students that played in the chess tournament at Lowell Elementary, it was their 1st time getting exposed to chess tournament etiquette. -During the chess clinic, it was the 1st time the 30 kids were introduced to chess puzzles.-During the chess clinic, it was 12 out of 30 youth 1st time being introduced to the game of chess.-At the end of the clinic, all the students felt like they all understood the game of chess. | - | $6,733 |
| In the area of running, our program is focused on promoting the benefits of running in both competition and training for sports that have running or endurance components. We understand that physical activity is important, we partnered with a local junior high school to launch Global Run Day and we ended having over 100 kids participate in the activity and talked about all the components of running and the health benefits that go behind running. We were also invited to a local elementary school to help observe a schoolwide fun run competition that has 8-10 local students running for time and endurance. Our goal moving forward is to expand our run program and get more kids involved early with participation. We plan on bringing back the Global Run Day and helping create run clubs at the elementary and junior high level as a way to prepare students for other sports and create awareness around positives of running as a sport or hobby. The following are examples of estimated statistics. -The 100 plus students that participated in global run day did not know the history of how running started and the importance of running.-The 100 plus student that participated in Global Run Day ended up achieving a metal that incorporated the positive message of the run.-The 100 plus student learned first hand from a doctor on the importance of hydration and pre-workout activities before running | - | $2,650 |
