“African American Leadership Institute Phoenix and Southern ArizonaThe African American Leadership Institute (AALI) was founded in 2010 by Valle del Sol in collaboration with Arizona OIC and South Mountain Community College and received initial funding from Wells Fargo. In the fall of 2017, the State of Black Arizona began to assess and enhance the content and structure of AALI, addressing the evolving needs of the community. The primary objective of the African American Leadership Institute is to leverage participants' strengths and life experiences, fostering personal and professional growth while encouraging genuine expressions of identity and practical visions for advancing Black representation in influential roles throughout Arizona.1. Volume V- Driving Local Investment of Black Arizonans- Focus on Housing Section-In collaboration with the Center for the Future of Arizona and other key housing experts across the state, the State of Black Arizona is analyzing housing data for a State of Black Housing Report to be released in early 2026, focusing on the Black community's homeownership discrepancies in Arizona. This report aims to spark proactive discussions among stakeholders to bridge these gaps.2. African American Leadership Institute (AALI) - Phoenix and Southern Arizona - 2 programs over 10 weeks-Through the African American Leadership Institute (AALI), we cultivate a network of Black leaders equipped to influence systems and institutions from within. Our three-month training program (OctoberDecember) provides mentorship, training, and access to platforms that empower participants to shape policy, culture, and community outcomes. By building Black civic and institutional leadership capacity, we aim to dismantle the gatekeeping that has long excluded our communities from decision-making spaces. This work drives long-term systems change by ensuring those most impacted by injustice are leading the solutions. 3)Maternal Infant Health White Paper Series-The State of Black Arizona, in collaboration with March of Dimes, is proud to unveil their latest initiative: a groundbreaking awareness campaign focusing on Black Maternal Infant Health in Arizona. Building upon the success of their previous endeavors, this partnership aims to further elevate awareness and drive positive change in our communities. 4.Arizona Business Database-formerly (Black Business Database)The Black Business Database is the first and only community-driven data resource and research tool focused on Arizonas Black-owned business ecosystem. Through a user-friendly GIS-based interface, the Black Business Database will allow users to access highly localized data on Black entrepreneurship in combination with other economic, demographic, and geospatial data, to study characteristics, trends and impacts related to Arizona Black-owned businesses.5. Sickle cell Awareness Campaign- A month social media campaign during Sickle cell Awareness Month in September to raise awareness, educate through data points and stories focuses on Black Arizonans”

We launched our maternal health campaign with a goal to enhance awareness and knowledge of Black Maternal and Infant Health in Arizona while continuing our work in 2024 with a White Paper series with videos starting in April.Our African American Leadership Institute in Phoenix and Southern Arizona completed its 12th and 3rd cohort. As we look forward to 2024, the word that encapsulates our vision is "Expansion." In the fall of 2017, the State of Black Arizona began to assess and enhance the content and structure of AALI, addressing the evolving needs of the community. The primary objective of the African American Leadership Institute is to leverage participants' strengths and life experiences, fostering personal and professional growth while encouraging genuine expressions of identity and practical visions for advancing Black representation in influential roles throughout Arizona.1. Volume V- Driving Local Investment of Black Arizonans- Focus on Housing Section-In collaboration with the Center for the Future of Arizona and other key housing experts across the state, the State of Black Arizona is analyzing housing data for a State of Black Housing Report to be released in early 2026, focusing on the Black community's homeownership discrepancies in Arizona. This report aims to spark proactive discussions among stakeholders to bridge these gaps.2. African American Leadership Institute (AALI) - Phoenix and Southern Arizona - 2 programs over 10 weeks-Through the African American Leadership Institute (AALI), we cultivate a network of Black leaders equipped to influence systems and institutions from within. Our three-month training program (OctoberDecember) provides mentorship, training, and access to platforms that empower participants to shape policy, culture, and community outcomes. By building Black civic and institutional leadership capacity, we aim to dismantle the gatekeeping that has long excluded our communities from decision-making spaces. This work drives long-term systems change by ensuring those most impacted by injustice are leading the solutions. 3)Maternal Infant Health White Paper Series-The State of Black Arizona, in collaboration with March of Dimes, is proud to unveil their latest initiative: a groundbreaking awareness campaign focusing on Black Maternal Infant Health in Arizona. Building upon the success of their previous endeavors, this partnership aims to further elevate awareness and drive positive change in our communities. 4.Arizona Business Database-formerly (Black Business Database)The Black Business Database is the first and only community-driven data resource and research tool focused on Arizonas Black-owned business ecosystem. Through a user-friendly GIS-based interface, the Black Business Database will allow users to access highly localized data on Black entrepreneurship in combination with other economic, demographic, and geospatial data, to study characteristics, trends and impacts related to Arizona Black-owned businesses.5. Sickle cell Awareness Campaign- A month social media campaign during Sickle cell Awareness Month in September to raise awareness, educate through data points and stories focuses on Black Arizonans |
