“Form 990-EZ, Part III, Line 28: by NSEFU Wildlife Conservation Foundation. These grants were used solely for those assistance projects approved by the board of directors. NSEFU Wildlife Conservation Foundation funded projects include the Ranger Program, Beekeeping Program, Sewing Project, Chabwela School Program, Reforestation Project, and Aquaculture Program. The NSEFU WCF Ranger Program consists of a team of 9 rangers that conduct antipoaching patrols, stings, wildlife monitoring, and data gathering. They are housed in the NSEFU Wildlife Ranger headquarters and conduct patrols that range anywhere from 7-20 days out in the field. The team works in conjunction with the Zambian Wildlife Authority team on field operations, arrests, tracking and confiscations of weapons, contraband, and poaching gear. Through its Chabwela School Education program, NSEFU Wildlife is working hard to educate the children from the earliest ages that their wildlife and their environment are something to treasure and protect. Youth education and community outreach are the means by which residents can be taught to support anti-poaching efforts. To accomplish this, NSEFU Wildlife and Zikomo Safari fund the Chabwela School, which serves the children in the NSEFU Sector of Zambia. Attendance continues to grow and additional classrooms are desperately needed. Each additional classroom costs ten thousand dollars and our goal is to build two additional classrooms. The beekeeping program is a rather interesting two-fold program that is growing rapidly and becoming very successful. This programs utilizes beehive bio-fencing to help reduce human elephant conflict. Through this program we are hiring local beekeepers to teach villagers the techniques needed to care for their own hives as well as providing beehives free of charge for the village participants. They are then provided 24/7 assistance in catching swarms and are given 100% of the fruits of their labors as the honey is purchased from them at above fair market price. This provides an alternative source of income to villagers.”
