“The purpose of the american research center in bulgaria, inc. (arcb) is to provide support to: (1) the american research center in sofia, a non-profit foundation organized, registered, and operating under the laws of bulgaria; (2) support american scholars and academic researchers in the field of the humanities and social sciences in bulgaria; (3) facilitate collaboration and cooperation between scholars from north america, bulgaria, and countries from southeastern europe (including romania, greece, albania, kosovo, macedonia, serbia and montenegro, and turkey).”

“During 2024, the american research center in bulgaria, inc. (arcb) continued to fulfill its mission. Arcb sponsored projects and events in the united states and provided grants to its partner organization in bulgaria, the american research center in sofia foundation (arcs) as well as the bulgarian studies association. The following text is a brief description of arcbs significant accomplishments: support to the arcs academic program, library, and other activities arcb provided grants to arcs in support of its various programs and activities, notably: hosting international scholars and students at its facilities in sofia and providing them with the logistical support necessary to conduct their research in bulgaria; maintaining and enhancing its unique library collection, freely available to the public; continuing its cooperation with cultural and academic institutions: o in the united states, the arcb officers and directors had a highly productive year, including numerous trips and events. In march, arcb co- founders drs. Nora and kevin clinton received a donation of archival materials from the voice of america pertaining to the cold war and were treated to an engaging vip tour of the voa building. The arcb directors and officers conducted multiple in-person and virtual meetings throughout 2024 with arcb friends and guests (notably, philip dimitrov, antonina duridanova, andrew bernstein, beatrice tolidjian, christo marinov, michael gloukhov, dobrinka droumeva, christopher wright, boyko antonov, pete kristofferson, and many other arcb supporters). O in bulgaria, arcs and arcb co-sponsored various cultural events, including a lecture in june by the arcb president dr. Nora clinton on the historic origins of campus anti-semitism today and how to disarm it. The lecture was delivered in the prestigious grand salon of the bulgarian academy of sciences and co-sponsored by the shalom organization of the jews in bulgaria.”

“Publications arcs and arcb continued their support for books with historical and cultural significance.”

“Research projects/websites: arcb continued to provide support for the online portal victims of communism in bulgaria (http://www.victimsofcommunism.bg/en/), launched by arcs in 2009. The goal of the project is to prepare a complete database of individuals who were subject to communist totalitarian repressions and their biographical information, thus filling a significant gap in our historical knowledge. The information from the website has been shared with the bulgarian state archives and will result in an official publication of the records.”
