Mission

The mission is to develop the capacity of the new mariners to become productive members of society and integrate successfully into the labor market as both employees and business owners to reaise the standard of living and improve the community.

Sustainable livelihoods relief organization (slro) is dedicated to empowering new mainers to build sustainable futures by providing holistic support, fostering community connections, providing resources, opportunity and preserving cultural heritage. We recognize that sustainable livelihoods are built on more than just financial stability or access to essential services; it requires a foundation of support that includes community engagement, cultural preservation, and opportunities for personal growth. All employees and members of the board of directors are expected to use good judgment, to adhere to high ethical standards, and to act in such a manner as to avoid any actual or potential conflict of interest. A conflict of interest occurs when the personal, professional, or business interests of an employee or board member conflict with the interests of the organization. Both the fact and the appearance of a conflict of interest should be avoided. Upon or before hire, election, or appointment, all employees and board members must submit a written disclosure of any direct or indirect financial interests that could create a potential conflict of interest. Examples include employment, business ownership, nonprofit affiliations, or similar interests held by the individual, their family members, or significant other. Disclosures will be kept on file and updated annually, or whenever circumstances change. Employees and board members must also disclose any interest in a proposed transaction or decision that may result in a conflict of interest. Once disclosed, the individual will not participate in related discussions, decisions, or votes. If there is a dispute about whether a conflict of interest exists, the executive director will determine the existence of a conflict and the appropriate action for employees. For the executive director or members of the board, the board of directors will make this determination and decide the appropriate action.
