| PRIOR TO COVID OUR FIELD TRIP PROGRAM SERVED SCHOOLS AND HOMESCHOOL GROUPS OF 300+ STUDENTS PER YEAR EACH SPRING AND FALL. THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED AS AN INTRODUCTION FOR STUDENTS TO LEARN ABOUT WHERE THEIR FOOD COMES FROM AND UNDERSTAND THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN GROWING HEALTHY ORGANIC FOOD AND BUYING POTENTIALLY CHEMICALLY TREATED VEGETABLES THAT ARE BEING SHIPPED ACROSS THE GLOBE. IN 2020 WE INTRODUCED OUR "NATURE LAB" PROGRAM WHICH WAS DESIGNED TO SERVE SMALL GROUPS OF STUDENTS TO LEARN LIFE SKILLS RELATED TO GARDENING, ORIENTEERING, PERSONAL ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY, WATER/WIND/SOIL, SURVIVAL SKILLS, PLANET APPRECIATION, TREE APPRECIATION AND WORKING WITH YOUR HANDS. WHILE OUR FIELD TRIPS WERE DOWN ROUGHLY 50% (DUE TO COVID) OUR NATURE LAB PROGRAM WAS A HUGE SUCCESS AND WE ENDED UP SERVING AS MANY OR MORE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES IN 2020. OUR CHICKENS/COOP EXPENSE IS GENERALLY ONE OF OUR TOP EXPENSES RELATED TO THE CARE AND MAINTENANCE ASSOCIATED. HOWEVER, SINCE OUR INCEPTION THIS EXPENSE HAS BEEN UNDERWRITTEN ENTIRELY BY A LOCAL VENDOR. “Abby's organic community farm is a non profit agricultural educational venue that teaches individuals and families about the health benefits of learning to grow their own healthy, organic food and live a more sustainable lifestyle, while actually doing that in community at the farm with other like minded people.”
“The farm encompasses all aspects of our community farm that are not specified otherwise regarding the repair, maintenance and acquisition related to: parking; roads; paths; signage, mulch; soil, composting; irrigation; tools, equipment, machinery and supplies that support the farm in general. As such, all volunteers and visitors benefit from the farm and we are currently serving just over 1500 people annually.”
“The farmhouse is integral to all aspects of our farm related to all volunteers and all visitors for field trips, nature labs workshops and special events for the use of the restroom, kitchen, storage and meeting rooms. In that regard the repairs, maintenance and supplies associated with the farmhouse benefit all volunteers and visitors which is currently just over 1500 people annually.”
“The raised bed areas specifically regularly benefit our volunteer families and with our current participation that would be roughly 250 individuals. In the broader sense, the raised bed areas are used as an exhibit for visitors attending field trips, nature labs, workshops and special events, so in that regard the areas periodically benefit all farm volunteers and visitors of roughly 1500.”
“Prior to covid our field trip program served schools and homeschool groups of 300+ students per year each spring and fall. In 2020 the vendor donated an additional 20 chicks to our 19 original brood, which were then integrated at the appropriate time. The chickens are a wonderful addition to the farm for our farm families to learn the husbandry associated with caring for farm animals, as well as a favorite area for field trip and nature lab students to be exposed to farm animals in such a close setting.”

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 6 | PRIOR TO COVID OUR FIELD TRIP PROGRAM SERVED SCHOOLS AND HOMESCHOOL GROUPS OF 300+ STUDENTS PER YEAR EACH SPRING AND FALL. IN 2020 THE VENDOR DONATED AN ADDITIONAL 20 CHICKS TO OUR 19 ORIGINAL BROOD, WHICH WERE THEN INTEGRATED AT THE APPROPRIATE TIME. THE CHICKENS ARE A WONDERFUL ADDITION TO THE FARM FOR OUR FARM FAMILIES TO LEARN THE HUSBANDRY ASSOCIATED WITH CARING FOR FARM ANIMALS, AS WELL AS A FAVORITE AREA FOR FIELD TRIP AND NATURE LAB STUDENTS TO BE EXPOSED TO FARM ANIMALS IN SUCH A CLOSE SETTING. |
