North suburban legal aid clinic (the "organization") is incorporated in the state of illinois as a non-profit organization. The organization was founded in 2015 to provide legal assistance in the areas of immigration, housing, and domestic violence. Initially, the clinic accomplished its mission through volunteer attorneys, a part-time executive director, and a part-time bilingual client liason. The need soon outpaced that model, and , today, the clinic accomplishes its mission with a full-time executive director, a seventeen-member board of directors, nine staff, countless residents, law firms, and businesses, as well as nearly 80 volunteer attorneys and professionals in the community. In 2018, the clinic board agreed to pursue expansion more broadly into lake county and northern cook county, based on a review of demographics and domestic violence statistics in neighboring towns.
