This includes the total expense of the cancer nutrition assistance program (supply chain, associated personnel time). The cancer nutrition assistance program offers medically tailored grocery packages to patients in active treatment, recovery, and those in their households. This is a no-cost program for patients, prioritizing distribution and opportunity to access nutrient-rich groceries despite cancer type, age, income level, geographic location, or race. The 2024 major outcomes for this program include sourcing, assembling, and distributing 5,140 grocery packages (154,200 equivalent meals, +30% yoy) across 120 maine towns to 600 patients (a total reach of 1,500 individuals, + 50% yoy). 150 volunteers ensure the program's reliability, safety, and friendliness through assembly and distribution at hospital pick up sites and home delivery across 11,500 square miles.

This amount was invested in cbf's nourishing hope trial, assessing and evaluating how access to healthy food an dietetic counseling impacts health outcomes and a family's social, economic, and physical factors while facing cancer. This is a multi-year clinical trial, with fy24 major outcomes including the creation of trial material and protocols. Py24 expenses include cbf personnel and consulting services, from research administrators and researchers at yale university school of public health. The trial is planned to open enrollment in q2 of 2025, with 100 cancer patients recruited and randomly assigned to receive 6 months of interventions in one of three study groups (1. Receiving home delivery of medically tailored grocery packages 2. Receiving home delivery of medically tailored grocery packages and telephone dietitian counseling 3. Usual care with delayed home delivery of medically tailored grocery packages).

The christine b foundation received 10,000 from the maine cancer foundation to provide cancer patients with direct financial aid. Cbf opened an application process for financial aid requests via mail, phone, and online (max of 500/individual), for patients with cancer living in piscataquis and penobscot county. 61 applicants were received, with requests totaling 31,217. Applicants were asked to share how funds would be used, here is a breakdown - food (65%), housing (38%), transportation (60%), medical bills (28%), other (10%). 93% of applicant agree or strongly agreed that their cancer diagnosis impacted their financial security. A staff and board of directors committee reviewed applicants. All applicants received financial aid. Cbf prioritized applicants seeking assistance with food, those in active treatment, and demonstrated cancer has a strong financial impact. 61 individuals were awarded, 18 receiving 317 (the priority area) and 43 receiving 100.

The 1,449 was the amount of interest expense associated in 2024 with the piece of property. The christine b foundation continues to invest and recommit itself to the infrastructure needs for greater comprehensive and collaborative services. This property was identified as the location for the greatest impact and feasability for creating a cancer nutrition facility to expand the capacity and reach of cbf's primary programming.
