DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Regenerative Systems Program: In 2023 we launched the Coalition for Regenerative Ecologies and Agriculture CREA with UTSA Alamo Colleges and Vetiver Roots Technologies via USDA funding. CREA offers paid internships fellowships and a study abroad experience in Veracruz Mexico focused on regenerative agriculture watershed restoration and biodiversity. Over 85,000 students are eligible to apply; about 40 are selected annually to work with local partners like the San Antonio Food Bank Gardopia Gardens Eco Centro and other local farms and ranches. Fifteen students take part in a three-week immersion in Mexico. We also advanced our Huertos Familiares program funded by the City of San Antonio and the Alice Kleberg Reynolds Foundation which empowers residents to steward food gardens pollinator habitats and wildlife corridors. The program will expand in 2025 to support decentralized seed banks and native plant networks in working-class neighborhoods.$50,845$55,610
Artistic & Transformative Practice Program: We believe that art performance and cultural exchange are powerful tools for environmental social and spiritual regeneration. This program fosters positive change through creative daily practice and public engagement. In partnership with A Todo Dar Productions we produce theater performances book readings artist talks and community workshops that inspire new ways of thinking and being. In 2023 our collaborative programming reached more than 1,000 individuals and engaged dozens of community-based organizations across Texas Arizona New York and California. These events provide inclusive emotionally resonant entry points for people who may not otherwise engage with traditional environmental or social justice efforts. By rooting transformation in culture and connection we aim to nurture lasting impact from the inside out.$27,900$31,549
This year we concluded our USDA Foreign Agricultural Service FAS grant in collaboration with Texas State University and multiple higher education institutions in Mexico. The grant supported research on Vetiver grass for pollution mitigation carbon sequestration slope stabilization watershed regeneration and on-farm ecological benefits. The HRAC located in Tamasopo San Luis Potos Mexico serves as a freely accessible educational hub for local farmers students and institutions. With a surrounding agricultural population of over 25,000 the center offers a demonstration site for regenerative practices that address poverty environmental degradation and community fragmentation. Dozens of regional universities and schools have toured and collaborated with the center. The international component also engages students and faculty in Texas through cross-border research and exchange. We also received a Pollinator Partnership Grants for native plant tree restoration in forests.$18,778$23,179
Xilitla Magia is a new collaboration that we are starting in the mountains above Xilitla SLP Mexico. We are working with a local property owner community group and two schools within the municipality to help establish a baseline for watershed restoration and wildlife conservation through deep ecological experiences experiences. The ultimate goal is to find creative ways to bring awareness and education to not only the local community but bring international contributors and researchers that can help create impact. This is a small initiative that we look to grow in the coming years.$1,000$1,000
