Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Green Cities Accord is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering climate resilient communities through investments in tree canopy infrastructure to improve environmental health, climate resilience, and equity in communities. We focus on securing funding for urban forestry, building public-private partnerships, and supporting municipalities in planting and maintaining trees. Green Cities Accord continues to grow both the Urban Forest Fund and the Urban Tree Carbon Offset Program as new funding mechanisms to address the chronic lack of funding for urban forestry initiatives. The Urban Forest Fund serves as a flexible funding mechanism that channels private and philanthropic investments into tree planting and maintenance efforts,. The Urban Tree Carbon Offset Program allows organizations to reduce their carbon footprint by purchasing verified offsets tied to local tree projects, with revenue reinvested into expanding and preserving the urban forest.

The conflict of interest update form is distributed to all employees in the employee manual requiring that they disclose any known conflicts and informing them of the policy and responsibility to notify the appropriate individual of any conflicts that may arise before the related action is taken. Individuals covered under the policy have an ongoing responsibility to notify the executive director (or chair) of any new or newly discovered affiliations that may represent conflicts. Notifications should be made at any time during the year before a related action is taken. It will be the executive director's (or chair's) responsibility to determine the correct action to be taken regarding the conflict and to assure that this action is compiled with (i.e. Prohibition from participating in the governing body's deliberations and decision in the transaction). Proceedings related to disclosures and proceedings are documented in meeting minutes or as otherwise appropriate.

Compensation for the executive director was determined by the board of directors of green minneapolis during the hiring process. The process included review and approval by independent persons, comparability data and contemporaneous substantiation. The process was last undertaken for the executive director in 2017. Subsequent increases and bonus were approved by the board and are merit based. At the end of 2020 no one holds the position of executive director.
