“Cowee School Arts & Heritage Center is exempt from federal income taxes under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Under the Code, however, income from certain activities not related to the organizations tax-exempt purpose may be subject to taxation as unrelated business income. The organization had no income from unrelated business activities in 2024-25 and was, therefore, not required to file Federal Form 990-T (Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return). The organization believes that it has appropriate support for all tax positions taken, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | Promoting Regional Culture: In FY25, CSAHC celebrated southern Appalachian and Cherokee culture and heritage through the following programs: Where We Live: History, Nature and Culture Speaker Series - provided enriching content on local culture, heritage and arts. 2025 highlights: Appalachian author, musician, teacher, and scholar Jeremy Jones, History of Cowee/Wests Mill Historic District (where CSAHC is located) with Stacy Guffey, The History of Cowee School panel discussion. Concert Series - the 2025 season continued to bring traditional mountain music to our stage. Artist Support Grants - In 24/25 we awarded five grants to regional artists in multiple disciplines. Author Events - CSAHC began partnering with City Lights Bookstore to bring and regional authors to present on related topics. Film Screenings - CSAHC hosted two film screenings, one on the history and revival of the American Chestnut, and Meet Me At The Creek, a short film by Cherokee filmmaker Loren Waters. |
