“Brief culvercity history: in 1913 young nebraskan, harry h culver announced plans at the california club for a city between los angeles and abbot kinneys resort venice. Open land of former ranchos offered mild climate with ample space for development. Early marketing read all roads lead to culver city and a goal for a planned community comprised of residential homes and business that would provide the tax base to support community needs. After watching thomas ince file westerns on ballona creek, harry culver invited ince to locate his motion picture studios in culver city. In 1919, harry culver invites hal roach studios to move from los angeles to culver city. By 1924, ince studio has become metro-goldwin-mayer studios (mgm). In 1990, mgm studios property had become sony prictures. The committee: the culver city centennial celebration committee inc (ccccc) is authorized by culver city council to form 501c3 nonprofit organization, which was established june 13, 2014. Ccccc has 11-member board of directors consisting of culver city residents and has monthly open-to-the-public meetings at city hall meeting room. Additionally there are advisors and community volunteers working to support the centennial year.the mission: ccccc acts to assist in planning, implementing and coordinating events, project and activities to celebrate city of culver city centennial year between 9/20/2016 thru 9/20/2017 (incorporation day centennial). Ccccc works to encourage residents, businesses, employees, organizations and community friends to fully participate in the celebration.”
