Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 2

Charles Lorenz, Executive Director, and Diana Lorenz, Assistant Director, are husband and wife.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11

An independent CPA firm prepared Form 990. Board members received a copy of Form 990 for review by e-mail before it was filed with the IRS. The recipients reviewed the Form 990 individually and discussed issues via email.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12C

Directors and officers are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest on an annual basis. The board as a whole is charged with monitoring the conflict of interest policy on a regular and consistent basis. Should any conflict of interest arise, interested parties are required to recuse themselves from the decision making process.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19

The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public upon request.

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part XII, Line 2C - Explanation of Responsibility:

The organization has a committee that oversees the audit process and selection of the independent accounting firm used. This process has not changed from the prior year.

Financial Statement Notes

Part X, Line 2:

The financial statement effects of a tax position taken or expected to be taken are recognized in the financial statements when it is more likely than not, based on the technical merits, that the position will be sustained upon examination. Interest and penalties, if any, are included in expenses in the statement of activities. As of December 31, 2013, FHT had no uncertain tax positions that qualify for recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. FHT's federal Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax Form 990 for the years ended December 31, 2012, 2011, and 2010 are subject to examination by the IRS, generally for three years after they were filed.

Part XI, Line 2D - Other Adjustments:

Part XII, Line 2D - Other Adjustments:

Rental Expenses 6,000.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0The financial statement effects of a tax position taken or expected to be taken are recognized in the financial statements when it is more likely than not, based on the technical merits, that the position will be sustained upon examination.

IRS990ScheduleI/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0All visitors are required to fill out an application on their initial visit and update their information about 1 year thereafter. This information allows us to evaluate whether certain individuals and/or families may need additional assistance other than the amount of food that they originally received based on limits that we established based on food availability & demand. Upon completion of the application each applicant is issued a card that notes the number of adults & the number of children in each household. Allocation of food items is based on family size, with a single person receiving less than a single parent with 7 children. At the end of the "shopping process", all "shoppers'" bags are checked to see if they have taken the amount they are allocated and then weighed & noted on the card that we issue to them and the date they visited. The amount each shopper receives is based on family size & the weight they receive is determined at checkout.
