Our mission is to plan, organize and conduct the annual Raleigh St. Patrick's Day Parade and all associated activities. Other activities planned by the committee are the After Parade Festival, Grand Marshal Induction Ceremony, and other related events not specifically mentioned. With these events, the Committee's goal is to share and spread awareness to the committed deeds of the St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and to celebrate the importance of family, fellowship and what it means to be Irish.

The Wearin' 'O the Green Festival is held on City Plaza at the south end of Fayetteville Street in downtown and includes both the east and west sides of Davie St. The festival includes live music, food as prepared by contracted festival vendors, and entertainment.We'll setup two stages for music and entertainment for the festival: one main stage in City Plaza on Fayetteville and a second dance stage on the corner of Fayetteville and Martin Street. The dance stage will host traditional Irish dance performances from two notable schools in the area: Inis Cairde School of Irish Dance and Trionoide Academy of Irish Dance. Music entertainment on the main stage is provided by local acts playing traditional Gaelic and Irish music as well as a main headliner band to close the evening. This year's performance was by the band Homeland out of Richmond, VA. The festival also plays host to a series of food and merchandise vendors to make a sell various Irish fare and items. To generate the majority of our operating revenue, the Committee contacts with local alcohol distributors to sell beer for festival patrons over the age of 21. All individuals on the Committee as well as the volunteer groups with contract with to assist in check id's, sell tickets and pour beer are ALE certified and we carry both General Liability and Workers Compensation insurance for the event. A single 12 ounce cup of beer is sold for $5. Additional revenue is obtained through a vendor entry fee of $250 for non-food vendors and $300 for food vendors.$3,638$42,049
The Raleigh St. Patrick's Day parade is approximately three-quarters-of-a-mile long and starts in downtown Raleigh on Wilmington and Lane Street, moves south and ends at Salisbury and South street. On average the parade is viewed by twenty to twenty-five thousand residents of the City of Raleigh and the surrounding Triangle (Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill). The parade is also broadcast online in accordance through a partner sponsorship with local CBS affiliate WNCN. Parade participants include local branch organizations The Ancient Order of Hibernians, The Emerald Society and Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) as well as local Irish/Scottish dance schools Trionoide Academy, Rince Go Halainn Irish Dance Academy, and Inis Cairde School of Irish Dance. Also every year the parade crowns a new Grand Marshal to head off the parade. This year's Grand Marshal was Kelly O'Doherty, head of the local chapter of Rose of Tralee. Other notable parade participants include the Raleigh Police Department and Fire Department, the Irish Wolfhound Association of MidSouth, City of Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane, The NC State Pipe and Drums, The Knights of Columbus, and WNCN. Participants in the parade pay and entry fee of $35 dollars to the committee to cover expenses, fees from the City and security provided by the Raleigh Police Dept.$1,213$14,045
The Shamrock Irish Heritage Essay Contest is open to young women and men of Irish birth or ancestry residing in Raleigh or the Triangle and surrounding areas of North Carolina. Contestants must be between the ages of 16 and 23. Two young men and two young women will be chosen as finalists from submitted essays and the winners will be selected by interview with the judging panel comprised of Committee members. The essay's have to be between 500 and 700 words and contestants can chose from one of the two presented topics: "What Irish traditions are you most proud of and how do you keep them alive in your life?" or "What does your Irish ancestry and heritage mean to you?" The first prize is a check for $1000 and second prize is a check for $500. Typically we receive around a dozen applications every year. In most all cases the funds are used to assist with college or university tuition and fees. The two winners are announced at out main fundraising event head every year in conjunction with the local chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians one month before the parade and festival.$0$1,500
