“Nebra is a medical research/education foundation established in accordance with title 38, subchapter iv-research & education corps. Sect 7361-7368, is to support biomedical and clinical research as well as health related educational activities in conjunction with the omaha veterans affairs medical center (ovamc). Research sponsored by nebra benefits veterans treated at the ovamc and the general public by advancing knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of desease and disability. Education supported by nebra help disseminate the results of the research so they may be translated to clinical practice, provide hospital staff with training in the latest treatments, and help patients understand and manage their medical conditions. Nebra administered education funds and also supported hospital staff training & patient education programs in several clinical areas. During the past year, nebra supported research in the following areas: mental health, endocrinology, pulmonary/respiration, infectious disease and gastroenterology. This research resulted in publication of articles in national medical journals. Twenty-two principal investigators (pi) have ongoing research or education projects that are administered by nebra. We have been represented at national medical conferences. Several of the pi's also participated in postersessions displaying their scientific research. Nebra has partnered with the research service support travel for research service staff, committee members and pi's to national meetings pertaining to regulation and compliance for human and animal research.”
