Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Nebraska Celebration of Books (N-COB). In 2024 the Center started a new program in the fall called Nebraska Celebration of Books (N-COB). This combines two previous programs 1) a Book Awards celebration for Authors and the awards for best in a number of categories. Book Award fees of 40 dollars per entry help support the program. 2) the Nebraska Book Festival, held to celebrate Nebraska's literary heritage and contemporary authors and to stimulate public interest in books, reading, and the written word. By gathering together contemporary writing talent of our state and surrounding areas, the festival provides an opportunity for participants to cultivate an understanding of our history, culture and community. Honoraria are provided to festival presenters. Booth, ad and sponsorship revenues help support the program.$0$3,706
One Book One Nebraska. This program is annually supported by a 2000 dollar grant from Nebraska Humanities to support a book chosen which is promoted throughout the state. Book sets are purchased with this grant and mailed to libraries throughout Nebraska.$0$2,000
Nebraska Book Festival Near You. Nebraska author Carla Ketner's book "Ted Kooser: More Than a Local Wonder" was chosen as 2025's children's book entry at the annual Library of Congress National Book Festival in Washington D.C. For a local flavor, Carla conducted four "Festival Near You" workshops throughout the state with program service expenses for travel and materials. The Nebraska Center for the Book designated representatives, including Carla, to assist the Nebraska Library Commission at Nebraska's booth in the Washington D.C. exhibit hall.$0$951
Letters about Literature. The Nebraska Center for the Book hosts the Letters about Literature Contest for elementary, middle school and high school students. This is a statewide contest and we have three winners and three alternate winners in each category. The winners meet the Governor and place their letters in the Heritage Room of Nebraska Authors in Lincoln. A luncheon is held to commemorate the winners and their family and teacher.$400$365
