Additional Explanations

Part III, Program Services

For 66 years, open door mission has been committed to protect and care for our neediest neighbors. While there have been many challenges over the years, the covid 19 pandemic has put us in unchartered waters. In spite of many uncertainties, open door mission continues to keep the doors open and provide safe shelter beds, nutritious food, and other quality care for hurting men, women, and children experiencing homelessness and near-homelessness in the omaha metro area, including southwest iowa. It is more crucial than ever, to provide care for the homeless population right now- those experiencing homelessness, living on the streets or in poverty, as they are especially vulnerable to illness due to pre-existing chronic health issues and/or weakened immune systems. Open door mission's free health and healing clinic (fhhc) continues to divert people from emergency rooms on a daily basis, seeing over 300 homeless people each week. Annually, open door mission diverts more than 602 patients from hospital emergency trips. The expectation is there will be a much greater number of people seen at fhhc, as more displaced/homeless people become ill and more people lose housing. The open door mission team is following all the centers for disease control and prevention (cdc), world health organization (who), douglas county health department (dchd), and nebraska department of health and human services (ne. Dhhs) to the best of our ability to create a healthy environment for our guests - listed are some of the big preventative measures that are causing additional expenses in sanitation and programming: *disinfecting surfaces in public areas every 3-4 hours *hand sanitizers mounted on walls in public areas *using disinfectant foggers for chapel, dining room, bright space and day room *providing care for over 128+ children and youth experiencing homelessness. Hired teachers and paraprofessionals for online schooling. *asking the cdc questions and taking temperatures at intake time. Offering covid rapid testing. *prepared quarantine rooms, isolation rooms, and waiting rooms to be proactive. Hired another full-time nurse and administrative staff. *educational material posted everywhere and in bathrooms on proper handwashing, cough etiquette, 3- c's, etc *using disposable paper products, glasses, and silverware as well as single-use condiments *moving to drive-thru resources for homeless prevention programs partnering with food for america to provide 19,520 food pantry boxes to the needy in our community *purchased thermal temperature readers for lobbies *purchased handwashing sinks for lobbies the covid19 quarantine has been challenging to open door mission to provide care, particularly for school-aged children who not only have been displaced from their homes but also their schools. School-aged children (and others) are now on campus all day requiring additional meals, supervised care and services. This is without the help of thousands of volunteers that have been restricted from coming onto campus, along with all visitors, partners and community service, to protect open door mission's guests, staff and community overall.

Schedule M, Method of Valuing Non-cash

The organization utilizes guidelines published by the denver rescue mission for valuing noncash donations of food, clothing, and household items.

Schedule L, Part II - Loans to And/or From Interested Persons

The organization entered into a loan agreement with moweco, inc. In order to finance the purchase of a piece of real estate from moweco, inc. In an "arm's length" transaction. Moweco, inc. Is owned by mr. Morgan holmes, a director of the organization. The transaction was approved by the board of directors, in which mr. Holmes recused himself from the deliberations.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization follows the provisions of the financial accounting standards board (fasb) accounting standards codification (asc) topic 740-10 related to uncertain income tax positions. Management believes there are no uncertain income tax positions taken which would require the organization to reflect a liability for unrecognized tax benefits on the accompanying statements of financial position.
