Active members are qualified to vote and hold elective office. Supporting members are those who do not qualify for active membership but support the goals and purpose of the association. Supporting members are not qualified to vote or hold elective office. Associate members are those within the supporting member class who wish to support the association at a higher level. Associate members are also not qualified to vote or hold elective office.

Form 990, Page 1, Part I, Line 6

The beef pit at the state fair is staffed by 30 different volunteers per day during the 12-day run for a total of 360 volunteers. The association has 45 affiliates across the state, each of which has at least one meeting during the year which is attended by one or two board members who speak at the meetings for a total of 135 volunteers. Members travel to various national industry meetings and sit on discussion panels on behalf of the association for a total of 20 volunteers. The volunteer member services chairman and council chairmen facilitate meetings at each association convention for a total of 34 volunteers. Members volunteer to review applications and vote on leopold award winners and attend the presentation of the award on behalf of the association for a total of 6 volunteers. Board members are volunteers. They attend board meetings six times each year and testify at legislative hearings on behalf of the association for a total of 222 volunteers. Members wrote and contributed articles for the association's magazine publication for a total of 14 volunteers. Members gave live radio reports on behalf of the association for a total of 25 volunteers. The association holds a summit program with unl students each year. The volunteers that helped totaled 17.

Aia (ag issues academy): ffa program which association works with other ag commodity groups in teaching ag awareness and providing media training to ffa students. Other educational programs nebraska beef industry scholars (nbis) summit is a program whereby nc staff meet with senior level college students at unl and teach them how to put on a one day conference. Under nc's guidance, students learn and are responsible for planning content, finding speakers, soliciting sponsorships, setting up the agenda, registration and all the activities the day of the summit. Nc handles all cash in and out of the summit and net proceeds are given to unl to help cover the costs of the nbis students' trip to the ncba convention in february. 17 students participated and there were 50 attendees. Nc road trip - membership meetings. Staff from the nc office put on meetings across the state to members. Topics from the education meetings were: legistlative updates, nc policy and brand laws & regulations. An open discussion time was held at each meeting for memebers to discuss and ask questions and current issues. Three staff members presented information to those attending the meetings. 170 members were impacted. Leadership--ycc programs to inspire young producers to become leaders. State affiliates nominate young producers to attend this sponsored event. 10 individuals spend 3 days learning and touring various cattle industry steps from pasture to plate, as well as attend media training and legislative sessions. These individuals then return the following year for a more in-depth look at the legislative process. These groups meet periodically throughout the year to find ways to give back to their communities. Representation - program for legislative and regulatory production practices-volunteers speak at legislative hearings. Representation - program to inform and educate members via media relations-volunteer members are interviewed for magazine articles and radio reports. Representation program for association members to attend meetings of other associations (unl, beef council, us meat export federation, usda meat animal research center, etc).

Part xii, line 1: the tax return of the association has been prepared on the modified accural basis of accounting which is a comprehensive basis of accounting other than generally accepted accounting principles. Under this method, dues revenue is recognized when received rather than when earned. All other transactions are recognized in accordance with the accrual basis of accounting.

The association is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(5) of the internal revenue code, except on net income derived from unrelated business activities. The association has advertising income, which is subject to tax as unrelated business income. At june 30, 2016 and 2015 the association recorded tax expenses of 16,590 and 33,003 respectively, on this unrelated business activity. The association believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken, and as such does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements.

OTHER EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS NEBRASKA BEEF INDUSTRY SCHOLARS (NBIS) SUMMIT IS A PROGRAM WHEREBY NC STAFF MEET WITH SENIOR LEVEL COLLEGE STUDENTS AT UNL AND TEACH THEM HOW TO PUT ON A ONE DAY CONFERENCE. UNDER NC'S GUIDANCE, STUDENTS LEARN AND ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PLANNING CONTENT, FINDING SPEAKERS, SOLICITING SPONSORSHIPS, SETTING UP THE AGENDA, REGISTRATION AND ALL THE ACTIVITIES THE DAY OF THE SUMMIT. THREE STAFF MEMBERS PRESENTED INFORMATION TO THOSE ATTENDING THE MEETINGS. 170 MEMBERS WERE IMPACTED. LEADERSHIP--YCC PROGRAMS TO INSPIRE YOUNG PRODUCERS TO BECOME LEADERS. STATE AFFILIATES NOMINATE YOUNG PRODUCERS TO ATTEND THIS SPONSORED EVENT. 10 INDIVIDUALS SPEND 3 DAYS LEARNING AND TOURING VARIOUS CATTLE INDUSTRY STEPS FROM PASTURE TO PLATE, AS WELL AS ATTEND MEDIA TRAINING AND LEGISLATIVE SESSIONS. THESE INDIVIDUALS THEN RETURN THE FOLLOWING YEAR FOR A MORE IN-DEPTH LOOK AT THE LEGISLATIVE PROCESS. THESE GROUPS MEET PERIODICALLY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO FIND WAYS TO GIVE BACK TO THEIR COMMUNITIES. REPRESENTATION - PROGRAM FOR LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATORY PRODUCTION PRACTICES-VOLUNTEERS SPEAK AT LEGISLATIVE HEARINGS. REPRESENTATION - PROGRAM TO INFORM AND EDUCATE MEMBERS VIA MEDIA RELATIONS-VOLUNTEER MEMBERS ARE INTERVIEWED FOR MAGAZINE ARTICLES AND RADIO REPORTS. REPRESENTATION PROGRAM FOR ASSOCIATION MEMBERS TO ATTEND MEETINGS OF OTHER ASSOCIATIONS (UNL, BEEF COUNCIL, US MEAT EXPORT FEDERATION, USDA MEAT ANIMAL RESEARCH CENTER, ETC).
