Form 990-EZ, Part III, Primary Exempt Purpose The Fritz Ascher Society for Persecuted, Ostracized and Banned Art in New York (FAS) researches, discusses, publishes and exhibits artists whose life and work were affected by the German Nazi regime between 1933 and 1945. With our work we commemorate their artistic achievements, introduce work that may have been forgotten to a broad audience, and initiate an active dialogue about individuality and artistic integrity in response to conditions of extreme duress and to political tyranny.

Fritz ascher is part of a rather large and distinguished group of artists, whose careers were interrupted or destroyed, and who themselves were persecuted, ostracized and banned by the nazi terror regime. After 1945 many of these highly accomplished artists did not get publicly acknowledged either. The fritz ascher society for persecuted, ostracized and banned art, inc. Aims to re-discover such forgotten artists, and introduce their unique artistic voices to a larger public. We strive to put these artists in their historical context, the context of european art and art at large through international research initiatives and collaborations with institutions on exhibitions as well as print and digital publications. With our work, we hope to initiate an active dialogue with the contemporary viewer about individuality and artistic integrity in response to conditions of extreme duress and to political tyranny.
