“The hawaii alliance for progressive action (hapa) implements its mission through the following inter-connected program areas. By using this intersectional approach, hapa seeks to create a more environmentally, socially, and economically just hawaii. Fair and sutainable food systems - hapa works to move forward hawaii's transition to a more sustainable and secure food system.today, the movement to transition toward regenerative food systems remains the most robust area of hapas work, often in collaboration with the protect our keiki coalition and other partners working at the intersection of regenerative agriculture, indigenous food systems, and environmental justice. Community-based stewardship - by supporting customary land-based organizing, protection and restoration of sacred sites and traditional food systems. Hapa has engaged in various campaigns across the pae`aina to restore healthy streamflow mauka to makai. On kauai, hapa works closely on the campaign to support the restoration of the north fork of the wailua river. Social and economic justice - addressing structural ways that economic inequality is perpetuated, working towards a more level playing field for all. Hapa supports policies to provide a living wage for all workers in hawaii, to tax real estate investment trusts (reits), to protect and increase affordable housing, to regulate vacation rentals, to support native hawaiians in receiving their fair share of the public lands trust, to increase funding for public schools and teacher salaries, and for tax fairness. We also support criminal-justice reform, such as bail reform, and moving toward restorative-justice models. Reclaiming democracy - by interrupting corporate influence on our government, restoring transparency, and citizen-driven democracy. In addition, the kuleana academy is an intensive non-partisan leadership development program for emerging community leaders interested in serving in public office. Academy participants receive campaign skills training as well as leadership development, media training, and immersion in hawaii statewide issues.”
