“Buffalo game space provides support for aspiring programmers, artists, musicians, and designers. By making mentors and high-end equipment available to members and guests, bgs has widened the skills in the local workforce and inspired the next generation of technical and creative talent in buffalo. Bgs has hosted hundreds of events including meetups and workshops for members and the public alike. In 2020, continuing from the past several years, we were the official western new york site for the annual global game jam, hosting over 30 local creatives while they worked together to make complete games in just 48 hours. In response to the covid-19 pandemic, we transitioned to hosting virtual events on the zoom and discord platforms to keep everyone connected. Our discord serves over 200 members, and since march 2020 we've held three virtual game jams. In 2019 bgs held the 4th annual queen city high school game jam where teams from six buffalo public highschools were taught by mentors how to make their first game. Bgs has also hosted a workshop series where several selected applicants with limited economic means were sponsored to attend the entire game development workshop series free of charge to further enhance the diversity of voices in the local tech and arts sectors. In the spring of 2018, bgs hosted the first annual buffalo game expo, giving game creators the opportunity to meet with the public and get valuable feedback on their projects.”
