“Part III - Program Service Accomplishments Emgage Action continued with its core work advocating on key issues including combating White Supremacy and domestic terrorism, addressing hate crimes reporting, protecting voting rights, and working across key agencies and relevant Congressional committees on harmful surveillance programs. One of our key successes included our CEO, Wa'el Alzayat, representing the Muslim American community along with other community groups and leaders at the White House "United We Stand Summit" to confront hate-driven violence. We also connected constituents with elected and federal officials. In partnership with the Community Collaborative Initiative, we participated and hosted the first annual National American Muslim Policy Conference, which galvanized the expertise of 25 Muslim American nonprofit organizations, elected officials, experts, community members, and leaders from across the nation to work together toward solving the community's most pressing policy priorities, needs, and concerns. The Emgage Policy team worked tirelessly through 2022 to advocate for crucially important legislation at the national level. Emgage continues to fight for the empowerment of marginalized communities, uplifting their voices, and supporting religious and civil rights across the nation. Highlights include helping pass the NO BAN Act and Burma Act of 2021 in the House; advocating for the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act to become law; participating in eight sessions with federal agencies; organizing a community briefing with USAID on the humanitarian crisis in Pakistan that resulted in deaths of more than 1,300 Pakistanis. Our state chapter work also included key advocacy on areas pertaining to voting rights, criminal justice reform, promoting Eid as a holiday, as well as working at the local levels for better access to halal foods.”
