“After school program girls on the run willamette valley gotrwv provided an after school program for girls 3rd to 8th grade within four counties in oregon. The program is designed to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using the physical training for a 5k as a backdrop to learning life lessons. The 10 week program included 20 lessons lead by volunteer coaches in the community. In fiscal year 2015 more than 470 girls participated in over 40 teams from schools and organizations located in four counties benton, lane, linn and marion. More than 120 volunteer coaches were recruited, trained and evaluated in the program last year.”

“Community 5k event the girls on the run curriculum includes a final 5k running event in the community that pairs participants with adult mentors. On may 30, 2015, the girls on the run 5k included more than 1200 participants and 130 event day volunteers from the community. The 5k event not only encourages running as an active lifestyle, it also provides a trangible experience of accomplishment as framework for future life goals beyond traiining.”
