Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
HORSE PROJECT FOR ALL STUDENTS. All of our students go to the nearby stables and are immersed in the knowledge and care of horses, mini horses and donkeys. They are asked to help feed, walk, and brush the horses one day per week. The rest of the work week, three of our students participate in our work study program. They spend two hours per day at the stables, doing chores and interacting with barn staff. They do not earn any money, but they are learning responsibility in preparation for holding down a job at a future date.$0$14,524
HEALTHY FOOD OPTIONS PROGRAM. Our students are not asked to bring their own meals to the program. Continental breakfast for our early students is provided as well as a hot, nutritionally balanced lunch, and an afternoon snack. This assures us that for the time that we have our students that they are eating sound, healthy meals in order to function at their best. We are actually the only ISS center in the area that provides meals. .$0$10,090
OFFSITE TRANSPORTATION. We were providing offsite activities into the community before we were required to with licensing. Our students currently are in the community daily, anywhere from 15-20 hours per week. They do various things, mostly social and educational. As a result, our students have bonded together and we are known in the Garland area for having exemplary students while in the community.$0$5,390
YEARLY CONFERENCE FOR STAFF, CONTRACTORS AND BOARD MEMBERS. Each year our staff participates in a long weekend conference to enrich their lives and provide that necessary break to perform job duties the rest of the year. Offsite conference is held within a certain traveling distance of the school and includes overnight accommodations for all enrolled. We take pride in that we provide this for those involved with the school. It helps create a significant bond for the board members who can't participate daily with staff and contractors.$0$4,578
YEARLY CAMP EXPERIENCE. Four day camp experience is available to all students, regardless of disability. Two thirds of our students participate each year for offsite camp in East Texas, including three overnight stays. While at camp, students receive the experience of working together as well as participating in local activities. Many of them have never been to camp due to limitations. Also during the year, we provide a local offsite day camp for all students, particularly those who could not make it to the offsite overnight camp.$0$1,724
