“Through our professional development workshops, we were able to provide personal finance and economics curriculum training to 257 educators who in turn, reached approximately 20,560 students throughout the state of New Jersey. Our offerings this year included programs covering Career Planning, Understanding Fiscal Responsibility, The Economic Roundtable, The Fiscal Ship: Steering the U.S. Economy to Safety, and College and Career Readiness. In the fall of 2018, NJCEE partnered with the New Jersey Coalition for Financial Education (NJCFE) to take part in the first ever three-day financial education conference for New Jersey financial educators. The institute included brief subject matter updates about current personal finance topics and hands-on activities to teach personal finance via creative lesson plans, online resources and technology tools. Participants were also given time to network with colleagues and share ideas in small groups. During this fiscal year, one of our esteemed economics and personal finance instructors was honored to be selected as a 2018 NextGen Personal Finance (NGPF) Fellow. A NGPF fellow takes part in a summer institute that brings together a group of talented and passionate financial educators from across the country to create new activities, curate resources, collaborate and deepen their content expertise in selected topics. Our instructor is one of only 8 New Jersey educators to have been chosen for this selective group. Both teachers and students continue using our first-rate, free online resources. For 2018, there have been 310 unique visitors using our EconEdlink website that gives access to hundreds of free, online lessons and classroom interactives as well as free, online professional development videos that allow teachers to gain mastery over challenging content and learn to use our active-learning methodologies in their classrooms. Gen i Revolution, our free, online personal finance game for high school students, has grown 13% over last year, with 10,802 students now participating. Educators and students continue to show increased interest in our state level student competition, the National Economics Challenge. The National Economics Challenge is the nation's most prestigious high school economics competition. The Challenge recognizes exceptional high school students for their knowledge of economic principles and their ability to apply problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to real-world events. In 2018, 385 New Jersey students participated in the challenge, an 8% gain over 2017 levels.”
