“Mission and vision newsong counseling center opened in the summer of 2014. Cathy turner had a strong desire to serve residents of montgomery county as well as surrounding areas. Mount sterling, the gateway to the east, is at the edge of the appalachian mountains where oftentimes mental and behavioral healthcare needs go untreated for generations. Mount sterling, itself, is a small town where everyone knows everyone else. To live among familiarity, southern hospitality, and strong community and still go unnoticed is often to feel invisible and/or isolated. Newsong counseling centers mission has been clear from the beginning - to provide affordable, professional counseling services with intentions to empower, nurture and educate individuals, couples and groups. Cathy had discovered that few affordable opportunities for counseling existed in the area, causing many people to travel to lexington or further to receive quality services that were often more expensive and even exorbitant. Cathy wanted to offer therapy to those who could not afford those fees, so she created a sliding-fee structure that ranges form 15 - 75 per session and is based on each individuals income level. The name for the center was inspired by the idea that god provides new beginnings and fresh opportunities to people no matter their age or stage of life. We can sing a new song (psalm 33:3) in any season. Beyond being a place to receive affordable and professional counseling services, newsong counseling center is a place where people are able to find hope and healing from the storms of their daily lives. Newsong counseling center is growing in its number of therapists as well as its areas of expertise. Currently, newsong provides assistance with addictions, grief and loss, parent training, pre-marital counseling, adolescent behavioral issues, trauma therapy, and play therapy.”
