Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Our mission is to connect urban youth with wilderness education experiences that foster personal growth..We further our purposes by conducting the following two outdoor education program activities: .1. Our flagship program model empowers urban youth through mentorship by community members and guides using nature as a platform for restoration, bonding, and transformation. We engage with youth throughout middle school. We collaborate with agencies that do gardening to link students to nature in a hands on manner. We then help these youth make a farm to forest connection. The natural restoration and bonding that takes place on the hikes creates an interest the environment and provides personal growth and transformation. .2. For our customized wilderness outings program, we work with charitable and other organizations to provide reduced-cost excursions for their youth or clientele.

part III- Organization Primary Exempt Purpose

Our mission is to empower underserved urban youth and U.S. Military Veterans through transformative wilderness leadership programs and mutually beneficial mentor relationships. WYLD stands for Wilderness Youth Leadership Diversity, several of our core values. We further our purposes by conducting the following two outdoor education program activitites: 1. Our flagship program model empowers U.S. Military Veterans through long-term mentorship of underserved youth using nature as a platform for restoration and bonding. We begin to engage with the youth in middle school and continue to work with them through high school. Our Farm to Forest garden component of this program revitalizes and constructs a middle school garden to link students to nature in a hands on way. The natural restoration and bonding that takes place there and on the hikes creates an interest to participate in the high school elements of the program. For their delivery we'll collaborate with other nonprofits. The elements include academic support, college prep, community service projects, and vocational exposure. Our goal is to use these tools to ensure the youth are receiving the support needed to have thriving lives in school and beyond. 2. For our customized wilderness outings program, we work with charitable and other organizations to provide reduced-cost excursions for their youth or clientele. These excursions will range from jointly taking out 'sister schools,' matched from different communities, to family camping, to service learning based projects. All will engage more youth through transformative wilderness leadership experiences.

Form 990-EZ, Part V, Line 35

Program service revenue shown on line 2 represents fees for certain participants to be able to go on a wilderness hike. Such hike furthers the organization's exempt purpose.
