“The ymca portion boasts a brand-new aquatic center, group exercise studios, a wellness center with top-of-the-line fitness equipment, an indoor track, a teaching kitchen, and an adventure room play area for children. There are also a variety of family-friendly, innovative, intergenerational spaces where seniors, teens, and families can connect and thrive through collaborative activities. 2024 saw the reopening of urgent care- penfield. Rochester regional health urgent care providers and staff are available to diagnose and treat most non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses, in addition to offering a full line of occupational health services. Conditions include: abdominal pain, allergies, cold and flu symptoms, ear infections, headaches, sore throats, and urinary tract infections (uti). Additionally, orthopaedic urgent care at the henrietta medical campus opened in 2024. Ortho urgent care provides same-day care for unplanned injuries or ailments directly related to the body's bone, joint, and soft tissue structures with the flexibility to walk in or call to schedule an appointment. Rrh providers specialize in care for orthopaedic injuries and musculoskeletal issues, including: sprains/ strains, fractures, sports injuries, acute joint pain, injuries to the back, shoulder, knee, foot/ankle, and/or hand/wrist. Services include: x-ray, bracing, and casting. Virtual urgent care continues to be available 7 days a week for minor injuries and common illnesses from the comfort of the patient's home, or wherever they may be. “In honor of social work month, the rrh team is collecting the following items or similar to help our social workers support community members in need: diapers, formula, bed sheet sets, gift cards for pharmacies (rite aid, cvs, walgreens, etc.), gift cards for grocery stores (wegmans, walmart, tops, etc.), gift cards for transportation (uber, lyft), other non-perishable items, feminine hygiene products and baby monitors. Rrh celebrated women's history month and the "women who advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion." events were held to recognize and celebrate both antonia novello, md, who was both the first woman and the first hispanic to serve as u.s. Surgeon general in 1990; and susie walking bear yellowtail's contributions to history and healthcare. Susie walking bear yellowtail, rn, was the first native american registered nurse. She was also the first native american nurse posthumously inducted into the american nursing association's hall of fame. The india heritage museum at the vinod and vinay luthra india heritage center proudly presents holistic harmony nurturing health and longevity. Two complementary exhibits will be showcased: plant-based living and the yoga of b.k.s. Iyengar. The event also includes a panel discussion featuring two rochester regional health physicians. Admission is free and open to the public. Participants learned about healthy plant-based eating and iyengar yoga through vibrant and informative displays, talks, demonstrations, and classes. In advance of the 2024 flower city challenge race, rrh's certified athletic trainer participated in a pre-race talk in conjunction with fleet feet rochester. This free event provided insights about how to train for a half marathon, understanding the ins and outs of nutrition as well as key points on mobility, stretching, hydration, and more. Various rrh providers participated in medicine minis from "the tiny trailblazer," a series of engaging brief interviews by a vibrant young interviewer passionate about our community and healthcare. These interviews shared insights into their provider roles, expertise, and exciting experiences. Sessions features included: a focus on the significance of maintaining a healthy heart; understanding urgent care and exploring the differences between urgent care, the hospital and more. Rochester regional health celebrated national minority health month under the theme of "be the source for better health: improving health outcomes through our cultures, communities, and connections," helps us understand how the unique environments, cultures, histories, and circumstances of social determinants of health (sdoh), racial, and ethnic minorities impact overall health. Throughout the month rrh leaned into our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, & justice by building awareness around health disparities that persist among racial and ethnic minority groups and encourage everyone to take action to end these inequities. Rochester regional health hosted middle and high school students from the university preparatory charter school for young men (uprep) for this year's men in healthcare event. The two-day event allowed students from uprep to get hands-on experience, including learning cpr. The event, organized by our diversity, equity, & inclusion team, allowed students to hear from industry professionals in nursing, research, and more and highlighted potential career opportunities in healthcare. Rrh was once again a key contributor and sponsor of the imagine rit: creativity & innovation festival. This event featured 350+ exhibits and 2,200+ exhibitors. Visitors of all ages experienced interactive presentations, hands-on demonstrations, exhibitions, performing arts, and research projects. The rrh exhibit included therapy dogs, led by rocdog; cpr instruction, and more in celebration of earth day 2024, rrh sponsored special activities across its locations, including tree sapling giveaways at each of the hospitals and an e-waste drop-off”
“Rochester regional health was a proud sponsor of the potsdam snack pack program back-to-school fair held in august at the potsdam high school. Team members were on hand to pass out branded items and share health-related information with children and parents. September is deaf awareness month. During this month rrh hosted events to highlight the culture rich in history, customs, and language. This month allowed rrh to highlight how d/deaf communities worldwide come together to celebrate, and bring awareness of deaf-related issues, their culture, and language unique to d/deaf and hard-of-hearing people. Rochester regional health celebrated national hispanic heritage month by recognizing the heritage, history, traditions, and cultural diversity of hispanic and latinx americans whose heritage is rooted in so many countries. Events included a display case in the riedman training center; the sharing of hispanic/latinx (cultural) recipes; and by hosting a hispanic heritage month event in october. Rochester regional health was a proud presenting sponsor of the 2024 making strides of rochester walk in october. Rochester regional health behavioral health team sponsored the american foundation for suicide prevention out of the darkness walk in october. This event supports efforts in the fight against suicide. Rochester regional health was a proud elite sponsor of the 23rd annual gouverneur breast & ovarian cancer walk. St. Lawrence has been an integral sponsor of this highly attended and important regional event for several years. Rochester regional health was a proud sponsor of the seaway valley prevention council's river run in ogdensburg. September is national recovery month, and a representative of the sl behavioral health team was there to promote and support recovery in st. Lawrence county. Rochester regional health team members participated in a family health & wellness fair in september. This free community event provided health-related information and services including blood pressure screenings, career information, and more. Rrh was proud to honor the legacy of gary smith, the heart behind the pirate toy fund. In partnership with his family, rochester regional health's hospice team collected toys to continue gary's mission of spreading joy to children in the greater rochester community. As part of lung cancer awareness month in november, rochester regional health shed light on the importance of early detection. Our lung cancer screening program offers quick, non-invasive scans at no out-of-pocket cost to those eligible. In honor of native american heritage month, the center for diversity, health equity, inclusion, and justice hosted an in-person witness to injustice program in collaboration with neighbors of the onondaga nation in november. Healthy moms held their annual family resource fair. The fair is a free community event that provides an opportunity for families to connect with community resources, get school supplies, and enter raffles for free giveaways. Nearly 500 backpacks were filled with donations from the community and throughout the system. Rrh hosted "wellness wednesdays" in conjunction with a local community center. “St. Lawrence health system (slh), a north country health system including three hospitals (canton-potsdam hospital, gouverneur hospital and massena hospital) and a network of primary and specialty care practices joined rrh in 2021 allowing rrh to expand its regional reach while enabling st. Lawrence to elevate and grow its medical services. Both rrh and slh have traditions of providing high quality, compassionate careand together, in 2024 they continued to bring about important technological integration milestones. Accolades and activity of the st. Lawrence health region in 2024 included the following: the slh clinical and rural health research department held a free event open to the public that shone a spotlight on the transformative power of clinical research in rural healthcare. Clinical research initiatives are bridging the gap in healthcare access, enhancing treatment options, and improving outcomes for rural communities.
