Raise the standards of home life. Secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth. We want to bring a closer relationship between the home and school and parents and teachers to bring a greater cooperation in the education of the children and youth.”
“The pta supports back pack program. Our school has a high percentage(just under 50%) of children who are eligible for free & reduced breakfast and lunch. Data shows that hungry children and sick more often have lower academic achievement than their peers and make it hard for them to pay attention in class and behave properly we felt that a need exists amoung said students for adequate food when these students are away from school. We established the no child left unfed program to provide nutritious, child-friendly food that can discreetly be placed in these children's backpacks to sustain them through the weekends or school holidays. We utilize school resources to identify the children in need of this program while maintaining their privacy.”
“Our school focuses a lot on encouraging children to read and excel in math. The school rewards children for trying to reach the highest goal possible for their reading and math levels. We help the school with the purchase of an amath computer program that requires an annual purchase of software; we purchase reading books, weekly rewards and year end awards to reward the children for their different levels of goals acheived.”
“We purchased 9 brand new large touch screen computers for the special needs children. This was a much needed expense as most of our special needs children had much difficulty trying to work the computer mouse and keyboard. This especially was difficult for them when they were taking timed exams. This will enhance their classroom experience and aid's the teachers in helping them learn a little easier.”
“The other program service expenses were for various teacher and school support. We purchase "tuesday folders" for every child in the school to provide a way for teachers to communicate with parents regarding classroom work, activities and special programs. We purchase the presidential physical fitness year awards for students who qualified; we purchase dare t-shirts for all 5th graders who completed the dare program through the school's resource police officer; we purchased program start up material and a robot for the lego robotics program; we purchased new choir risers; we purchased a new rug for the music room; we worked with the cafeteria to provide free snacks to all children on the days they take their virginia state sol exams so they wouldn't be hungrey while taking the exam; we help teachers with general classroom supplies needed throughout the year.”
