Mission

Education burma thailand myanmar (ebtm) was formed on 7/22/2014 with the mission of:a) funding myanmar migrant education programs in thailand.b) facilitating and funding programs for the migrant students' return to myanmar.c) creating and funding programs in myanmar for migrant and other needy students.d) in 2016, ebtm added agricultural, educational and community development programs in myanmar. Ebtm programs carry on and expand bill harrison's work on education in thailand which started after the asian tsunami in 2004, where he raised operating funds for the chiang mai learning center from 2005-2009 and the beam education foundation from 2010-2014.

TREATING PEOPLE WITH TRAUMA INSIDE MYANMAR IS COUNTERPRODUCTIVE AND DANGEROUS; PATIENTS NEED A MEASURE OF SAFETY TO BEING THE RECOVERY PROCESS.BEAM PURCHASED LAND IN MAE SOT, THAILAND ON THE THAILAND/MYANMAR BORDER IN JUNE 2022 AND STARTED CONSTRUCTION ON AN IN-PERSON TREATMENT FACILITY. OUR CLINICAL TEAM,LED BY A MYANMAR PSYCHOLOGIST, BEGAN TREATING YOUNG MYANMAR TRAUMA PATIENTS IN THE FALL OF 2023.-$127,400
EBTM - Bagan Clinic Myanmar WITH THE CONTINUING VIOLENCE CAUSED BY THE MILITARY JUNTA IN BURMA AND COLLAPSING ECONOMY IN BURMA, MEDICAL CARE IS ONE OD THE MOST AFFECTED SECTORS. COST OF MEDICAL SUPPLIES AND FUEL ARE AFFECTED BY SOARING INFLATION. OUR CLINIC CONTINUES TO SERVE THE POOR WHO COME FROM ALL AROUND BURMA AND WE TAKE MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO SMALL CLINICS ARE ARE HIDING IN THE JUNGLE.IN 2024, THE CLINIC, UNDER VERY DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES, MANAGED TO SEE 9,177 PATIENTS.-$40,000

Each year new names are added to thedonor/prospect list and personal solicitation notes and an EBTM Activity Report are mailed to all prospects and donors. 310 solicitations were mailed in 2024. That number has increased by about 10 per year over the last 5 years. 85 cash contributions were received in 2023. That number has stayed about the same over the last 5 years. About the same number of donors drop out as new donors contribute.Multi-Factor Analysis1. Percentage of financial supportThe ratio of Public Financial Support is 23.69%. In 2019, 2020, and 2021, Karakin Foundation was EBTM's largest donor, contributing to a lower ratio of public support. In 2022, Karakin supported EBTM causes (the BEAM Foundation RISE Trauma Center in Mae Sot, Thailand) through the Partners Asia 501.c.3, which acted as their fiscal sponsor (In December 2022 Partners Asia disbursed $330,000 received from Karakin to the BEAM Education Foundation for Trauma Center needs in 2023 and 2024.) In 2023, Karakin supported EBTM with $30,000. In 2024, Karakin supported EBTM with $40,000. Future Karakin support for EBTM will mostly go through Partners Asia. This will help increase EBTM's ratio of Public Support.2. Sources of supportThere are approximately 85 separate donors in each of the last 5 years. EBTM wasincorporated as a 501(c)3 in 2014 and has a wide geographical range of donors,mostly individuals familiar with the migrant education work of Bill Harrison, EBTMPresident.3. Representative governing bodyEBTM's 3 board members strive to represent the broad interests of the numerouspublic donors. EBTM has focused on education and health care for youngBurmese in Thailand and Burma. It has also supported emergency aid programsduring national disasters.Bill Harrison has been working in education in Burma and Thailand since 2004.Margaret Siegel, Harrison's sister and EBTM Director, was a University librarian formany years. Ted Green, Harrison's nephew and EBTM Director and Secretary is a documentaryfilmmaker who edited EBTM's 10 Year BEAM Foundation Anniversary video.Patricia Crosson, Harrison's sister (recently deceased) and former EBTM Directorand Secretary, was very active from 2014-2021 on education oriented EBTMactivities. She was Dean of the Education Department and Vice Provost of theUniversity of Massachusetts, Amherst.4. Availability of public facilities or services, public participation in programs or policies. EBTM grants are primarily to BEAM Education Foundation in Chiang Mai, Thailand, which engages in education and health programs for Burmese in Thailand and Burma. The BEAM School in Chiang Mai has conducted on-line and in-person academic programs throughout Burma and Thailand since 2010.The BEAM Education Foundation built and operates a mental health trauma treatment facility which opened in 2023 on the Thai/Burma border. They treat young Burmese trauma sufferers fleeing the military junta led violence inside Burma. The Rise Center is a program designed by Bill Harrison of EBTM and Kyaw Kyaw Min Htut, the Burmese Director of the BEAM Education Foundation.5.
