“The mission of resilient navigation and timing foundation is to promote wide area resilient navigation and timing ("rnt") worldwide. (note this is sometimes referred to as wide area position, navigation and timing services or "pnt services," but in this explanation, we will use "rnt," except when citing other sources.) as part of this we support the recommendations of the president's space- based positioning, navigation, and timing advisory board, upon which our president serves. These recommendations are generally summarized as protect frequencies used for navigation and timing signals, toughen end use devices to better resist interference, and augment gps/gnss signals with alternative sources of navigation and timing information. Navigation and timing systems are essential to a wide variety of transportation, information, communication, power distribution, and other critical infrastructure. These systems also are important to a broad spectrum of other economic and human activity. Space-based navigation and timing systems, like the global positioning system ("gps"), send very faint signals which are easily disrupted, cannot be received underground, underwater, and frequently not indoors. Rnt technology can overcome these problems in most cases. For example, a strong, wide area navigation signal could allow first responders to navigate underground and indoors and receive communications from outside. This would increase safety for fire fighters, for example, as it could help them find their way and be tracked inside buildings, as well as receive directions to change their tactics or evacuate from the fire chief outside.”
