| Preservation and rehabilitation of our historic Englewood Depot building as home for our museum continued in 2024. The exterior aspect of the Depot is protected by an historic preservation easement held by the Colorado Historical Foundation, while interior historic rehabilitation is supported by the State Historical Fund and other funding. Interior work in 2024 continued with roughing in of plumbing and electrical systems and preservation of historic features of the Depot. The electrical service connection was accomplished with underground wiring from a newly installed pole on the property and addition of an exterior shut-off. A full service electrical panel was installed in the lower level and roughed-in conduit and wiring was done. A full HVAC heat-transfer system was installed with exterior compressors, providing interior HVAC service for the separate rooms and both levels of the building. Our mission to serve the community joins the rehabilitation and repurposing of the historic Depot with our creation of a living museum with our collection of letterpress materials and resources for the community. The rehabilitation expenses are an initial focus to establish and preserve our historic connections for this community. A major $248,000 grant for rehabilitation was approved in 2024 from the State Historical Fund. Success of a capital fundraising effort in 2024 enables activation of the SHF grant and completion of most of our rehabilitation goals in 2025. | $0 | $85,671 |
| Demonstrations to introduce book arts, printing, historic information and our available resources continued with multiple events in 2024. A STEM printing event included hands-on engagement with students at Cherrelyn Elementary, and twice at Cherry Creek High School at their Fine Arts Fridays. At The Finest High School of Choice in Englewood students used our wood type and press to produce a series of Wanted Posters. Other Englewood hands-on printing took us to Belleview Park, to the Spring Market, the Englewood Block Party, and the Englewood Holiday Fair. We brought our presses out for the Rocky Mountain Stamp Show and for the annual Rocky Mountain Book & Paper Fair. Individual workshops and printing projects were done at nearby printshops, including a session with the Postcard Club of Denver, and a group workshop at the Book Arts League in Boulder. Seasonal cards, wedding invitations, poetry, broadsides, and other small press projects have been hand-set and printed by traditional methods. Individual advice and discussion have been available online and by phone, including research access and scanning materials from our collection of historic amateur journalism. A major regional biannual event - the Month of Printmaking - included a Print Jam at the Arvada Center, where we participated with four kinds of tabletop presses, including Lego printing, a mini etching press printing Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky, and production of a series of botanical studies from Colorado Agricultural College in the 1920s printed on our tabletop Adana press. Letterpress Depot also participated in the MoPrint Open Studio days, and the Small Press Fest gathering. With woodblock artist Michael Keyes we produced a broadside poster for a MoPrint show in Arvada. Another major event combined our printing expertise with demonstrations and presentations at the international How Design conference held in Denver in 2024. We moved our historic 1800 pound Washington style hand press to the conference for hands-on demonstrations: we printed and distributed broadside posters with an image of the press, using hand-set wood type and photopolymer printing processes. For another area of our program services we continued investment in Zoom meeting resources for Board meetings and discussions, and for expanded online projects, education and sharing of our work on our website and on social media with a larger online public. In 2024 we focused on improvements for our web and social media presence with a board review Tech Audit. We are actively involved nationally and internationally in an expanding online letterpress and bookarts community. | $0 | $1,211 |
| Our collection. Preparation - assessment, inventory, maintenance, storage, repairs - of historic printing & typographic material to be used & displayed in our museum and programs. In 2024 additional equipment and library resources were added. An historically significant collection of woodtype from the Gates Rubber Co printshop was donated in 2024. Other important press-room equipment was donated by a die making company, and a large collection of type and equipment was donated by the former Dolan Bookbinding company. Research, inventory, preservation cleaning and repair work was undertaken. Our library collection added additional important books and graphic arts materials. And purchase of a Spacesaver Mobile Shelving System with support from a grant from the Colorado Wyoming Association of Museums will enable proper shelving and access for our books and research materials. This shelving system will be reassembled in the museum as rehabilitation and insulation work is completed in 2025. Although continuing work on the Depot building has limited full use of our collection at the Depot, we have assured safe conditions for storage and repairs, inventory records, documentation, and access - our collection continues to grow and be developed and has been creatively available for teaching and other projects in the community. | $0 | $890 |
