“Driggs plein air festival: participants: 75 artists from 20+ states and canada audience: 2,000. The dda hosted the 7th annual driggs plein air festival during the last week in july 2018. Uniquely suited to provide a wide range of western landscape and cultural subject matter, driggs is a favorite destination for a growing audience of plein air artists and art collectors. The free festival kicks off with a paint out during a popular symphony on sunday concert followed by the opening reception. Quick draws, paint outs, and artist demonstrations compliment the week-long exhibition & sale in the driggs city gallery, and tent sales where over 300 paintings are for sale to the public. The final competition exhibition offers the community a chance to experience works that have been judged to show examples of excellence from both emerging and accomplished artists.”
“Driggs snowscapes & snow ball: participants: 50 artists audience: 1,600 on finals day. 4,000 over the course of 4 weeks. Each year, during the 3rd week in january, the annual driggs snowscapes showcases what makes teton valley unique and special, specifically its appreciation of snow, love for creativity and commitment to collaboration. Selected on the basis of the quality of their design, eight teams of artists spent four days transforming 8x8x8 foot blocks of solid snow into larger-than-life works of art. Artists from idaho, wyoming, utah, new york, pennsylvania, oregon, colorado and italy have sculpted along side several local teams, including two local high school teams. Final sculptures are scored by 5 carefully selected professional artists according to specific criteria including creativity, composition, expression of meaning, expression of emotion, overall impression, detail, texture, negative space, free standing components, and finish. Cash prizes are awarded while the public votes for peoples and kids choices on the final day. Immediately following the driggs snowscapes snow sculpting awards ceremony, the snow ball is a signature winter event that brings together residents and visitors for an evening of snow themed dcor, live music, dancing, games and refreshments in the local senior center in driggs city center. The snow ball is designed to be an affordable, fun, family-friendly celebration in downtown driggs. Each year 300-350 people attend this very popular evening out.”
“Symphony on sunday: audience: 200-350 per concert in 2017, the dda started a series of free classical chamber music performances in downtown driggs. A partnership was formed with the idaho falls symphony to present three outdoor performances by their string, woodwind and brass ensembles. And a 4th concert performed by the sagebrush chamber players was added in 2018 to kick off the driggs plein air festival. During the concerts held from 4-6pm on sundays, musicians talk about the music and instruments, and answer audience questions, which adds a wonderful educational component to the performances. Hundreds of local and visiting adults and families spread their blankets and chairs on the lawn at the driggs plaza to enjoy the summer evening”
“Shakespeare in the parks: audience: 350-400 in 2015 the ddca began hosting montana's shakespeare in the parks summer performance in driggs. These performances are part of a multi state summer tour into underserved, rural areas, which would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience live professional shakespeare theater. Our community enjoys high quality free theater in july as part of the driggs summer arts programming. Held on a grassy lawn downtown and adjacent to the main highway in driggs, this event is very accessible and draws hundreds of people locally and from the region including tourists.”
