“Founded in 2013 by faculty, alumni, students, and friends of the University of Pennsylvania, the Collegium Institute is a Catholic intellectual apostolate with a catholic vision: that is, it draws the contemporary learning of Americas first secular university into conversation with the Catholic intellectual tradition and cultivates reflection on the catholic, or universal, questions that animate every human life. Collegium Institute hosts scholarly projects and publications as well as programs and events in University City for students (graduate, undergraduate, and high school), faculty, and other learners of all faiths and of none.The institutes name, collegium, serves as a reminder that the pursuit of knowledge, which is the principal object of all universities, is a communal enterprise. Its flourishing depends upon its members working together to cultivate certain virtues of mind and character, such as humility, trust, honesty, justice, and the love of truth. By witnessing to these enduring virtues, the Collegium Institute aims to serve contemporary academia and become a vibrant center of learning within it.The Catholic intellectual tradition is a reservoir of profound thinking about the synthesis of knowledge. By bringing this tradition into conversation with the secular academy and by encouraging a holistic approach to scholarship that transcends disciplinary boundaries, the Collegium Institute affirms the unifying and truly liberal ends of education namely, freedom in truth.”

“Collegium conducts 22 programs during the academic semester that draw diverse academic fields into conversation with the Catholic intellectual tradition.Professions and the Good Life is comprised of five student fellowship programs that aim to help students explore, in dialogue with scholars and practitioners, how their professional vocations (in medicine, law, finance, the arts) can be integrated with commitments to virtue ethics, justice, and humanistic inquiry into lifes central questions.The Liberal Arts Series includes programs that explore the catholicin the sense ofuniversalquestions confronting students in their pursuit of meaningful, integrated lives. These programs include: Food for Thought, Lectio Humana, Undergraduate Fellows, Symposium, Koine Greek, Renaissance Latin, & Metropolitan Seminars for the Humanities and Public Life.The Theology Series includes programs that take a dynamic and interdisciplinaryapproach to explore the Catholic intellectual tradition as a reality lived out in the pilgrimage of our lives. These programs include Catholic Humanism, Young Catholic Leaders Initiative, Grad Fellows, Christian Thoughts-in-Progress, Faith in Fiction, Catholic Philosophical Tradition, and Global Catholic Literature.In addition, Collegium hosts or co-hosts a diverse set of professional publications, student media platforms, projects, and university partnerships which highlight mission-aligned inquiry happening within and beyond the University of Pennsylvania community. These very living partnerships highlight the living nature of the intellectual life, from newly published books, to ideas students are currently in conversation about within programs like Food for Thought or Catholic Humanism, as well as fostering the cultural heritage of the Catholic Church.
