Hostage us is an independent non-profit organization that provides support to hostages and their families during and after a kidnapping. Our three- part mission is; to ensure hostage families and returning hostages get the assistance they need through the direct provision of support and by helping them to access the resources available from the government and other organizations; to increase the capacity of employers to support hostage families and returning hostages through training and education; and to improve public recognition of the plight of hostage families and returning hostages. We do not negotiate or raise ransoms, and are not involved in rescue attempts. We cannot help to bring a loved one home, but we can make a terrible situation more bearable.

“Through our nationwide networks of financial advisors, mental health professionals, communications experts, lawyers, hospitals and doctors, we are able to help families navigate through an emotional and traumatic time of changed family dynamics and changed financial situations and also, help them to deal with the legal ramifications of having a loved one kidnapped. Our trained family support volunteers have provided emotional and practical support to many family members and returned hostages while acting as a liaison to our network of professional services. In collaboration with our strategic partners we have provided a range of professional services including legal, financial advisory, communications and mental health support to hostages and their families. We have helped families and hostages cope with logistical and administrative challenges that become overwhelming at times of stress, trauma or grief. Our website serves as a resource center for hostages and their families, with practical advice, guides on how to cope with the different stages of a kidnapping, and a library of films of those who have been impacted by kidnapping. Additionally, hostage us hosts seminars and on-site tailored training sessions to educate security managers, hr, legal counsel and other employees to handle the before, during and after a hostage crisis of a staff member. Education and training are mission critical to improve the support provided by organizations to hostage families and returning hostages by teaching the tenets of duty of care.”
