The members (referred to as Medical Staff) of Deaconess Medical Staff shall be medical practitioners and providers who are legally licensed in the State of Washington. The classes of membership are Active Staff, Affiliate Staff, Community Associate Staff, and Honorary/Medico-Administrative Staff.

The Medical Staff Officers are elected by the medical staff membership or appointed by the Chief of Staff to any leadership or Chair positions they hold.

Members of the staff may petition to remove or change governing board members. They may also vote to alter the bylaws.

There are not any committees with broad authority to act on behalf of the Board.

The Chief of Staff reviews a draft of the Form 990 before it is submitted to the IRS.

The conflict-of-interest policy covers all Medical Staff members. Members must file a written statement to the MEC (Medical Executive Committee) describing any relationships that raise a conflict when they are appointed or reappointed as a member or renew clinical privileges. The MEC Secretary will provide each member with a copy of each leader's written disclosure. Medical Staff leaders shall abstain from voting on any issue in which they have an interest.

For any officers that are or will be compensated, the MEC (Medical Executive Committee) reviews and approves officer compensation. The MEC utilizes comparability data to determine the reasonableness of compensation.

IRS990/MissionDesc0The purpose of Deaconess Medical Staff is to be the organization through which the benefits of membership on the Medical Staff may be obtained and the obligations of staff membership may be fulfilled. (Continued on Schedule O)To foster cooperation with administration and the Board while allowing staff members to function with relative freedom in the care and treatment of their patients. To provide a mechanism to ensure that all patients admitted to or treated in any of the facilities or services of the Hospital shall receive a uniform level of appropriate quality care, treatment and services commensurate with community resources during the length of stay with the organization, by accounting for and reporting regularly to the Board on patient care evaluation, including monitoring and other performance improvement activities in accordance with the Hospital's performance improvement program.

Members must file a written statement to the MEC (Medical Executive Committee) describing any relationships that raise a conflict when they are appointed or reappointed as a member or renew clinical privileges. The MEC Secretary will provide each member with a copy of each leader's written disclosure. Medical Staff leaders shall abstain from voting on any issue in which they have an interest.
