The foundation board is comprised of members with diverse backgrounds and expertise who devote their shared commitment and passion to collectively support protection and restoration of the washington coast region salmon by providing resources and helping guide ecosystem and science-based, community-informed approaches. The board supports the highest priority needs of the coast salmon partnership with an emphasis on outcomes that are resistent to long-term change. The foundation secures diverse public and private funds to empower the partnership's durable salmon recovery outcomes in watersheds throughout the washington coast region.
We work to protect and restore salmon populations in Washington's coastal watersheds by restoring and protecting healthy habitats and ecosystems while also working to increase the resiliency of coastal communities.

“In collaboration with Trout Unlimited and the Wild Salmon Center, the Foundation was successful in securing funding from the US Fish and Wildlife Service to conduct a culvert inventory in western Clallam and Jefferson Counties. The inventory will include an initial assessment, a comprehensive assessment and preliminary engineered designs for removal and/or replacement of the three highest prioritized barriers. This project will assist each county in leveraging additional funding sources for the removal and/or replacement of stream crossing structures that currently prevent the migration of salmonids at all life history stages. Providing access for salmonids to the high quality habitat and cool-clean water available on the Olympic Peninsula is a critical step necessary to reach sustainable population numbers.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | SALMON PLAN IMPLEMENTATION: We work to protect and restore pacific salmon populations in the Washington Coast Region, which comprises all watershed that drain directly into the Pacific Ocean between Cape Flattery and Cape Disappointment (3.75 million acres). The Foundation actively works to implement the Washington Coast Sustainable Salmon Plan by coordinating local watershed groups in the strategic development and prioritization of habitat restoration projects, which are then proposed for funding through eligible funding sources. On average every year, $1.5 million on-the-ground habitat restoration and protection projects in the region are implemented through the state's Salmon Recovery Funding Board. In addition to this, the foundation plays a pivotal role in the continued development of the Washington Coast Restoration and Resiliency Initiative, which has brought over $23 million in additional project funds to the coast with another $12.5 million in project funding proposed for the coming 2017-2019 biennium. This effort has involved a broad coalition of local, state, and non-profit organization representatives who work together to restore coastal ecosystems and the communities that depend upon them. The Foundation continually pursues additional funding opportunities in our efforts to continue the implementation of the sustainable salmon plan. These regional collaborative efforts require the oversight, consensus building and management of a single entity to provide an unbiased regional perspective to habitat restoration and protection implementation to approach sustainable salmon populations throughout the Washington Coast Region and to leverage the resources required to accomplish this task.OUTREACH: During the reporting year, the Foundation continued implementation of their communications and outreach strategy. Outreach and communication are essential for the implementation of the Washington Coast Sustainable Salmon Plan. While the development and prioritization of habitat protection and restoration projects are made by local watershed groups, land use decisions are made at the county or state level, and funding decisions are typically made by groups far removed from the impacted watershed. The Foundation, as guided by our communications and outreach strategy, works to provide outreach and communication to ensure that funding, land use, and restoration decisions are compatible with long-term sustainability of coast salmon populations. In addition to decision makers, the Foundation supports targeted educational programs for youth, the future decision makers in the region.LAKE OZETTE SOCKEYE: The Washington Coast Region is the only region within Washington State that is not dominated by the presence of salmon species listed under the endangered species act (ESA) as threatened or endangered. However, the Lake Ozette Sockeye is listed as threatened per the ESA. The Foundation, in collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), coordinates the Lake Ozette Sockeye Steering Committee (LOSSC). LOSSC is a local watershed group that works to implement the Lake Ozette Sockeye Recovery Plan developed in 2006 by NOAA. The Foundation works to promote communication and consensus-building, while also assisting in the identification of projects for plan implementation to accomplish population restoration and other Lake Ozette Sockeye Recovery Plan objectives. |

The inventory will include an initial assessment, a comprehensive assessment and preliminary engineered designs for removal and/or replacement of the three highest prioritized barriers. This project will assist each county in leveraging additional funding sources for the removal and/or replacement of stream crossing structures that currently prevent the migration of salmonids at all life history stages. Providing access for salmonids to the high quality habitat and cool-clean water available on the Olympic Peninsula is a critical step necessary to reach sustainable population numbers. |
