DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Sedona Chamber Ballet provides performance opportunities to inspire professional dancers and students to the highest level of artistry. To that end we produce an annual Nutcracker with the Phoenix Ballet annually. We believe in providing education that is challenging, contemporary and comprehensive and provide at least three master classes a year. We produce at least two other dance events each year. In 2017 we jointly produced Ballet West Gala and offered free master classes with Ballet West faculty to our dance students in April. We negotiated a summer intensive in conjunction with master teachers in the Phoenix area and will bring a world class ballet intensive to Sedona in July 2019 and will also bring the first international ballet competition focusing on choreography to Sedona in January 2019. We had master classes throughout the year with renown teachers for students from throughout Arizona. In the 2017 production 28 of the local children were given the opportunity to dance in a professional production with the Phoenix Ballet in Sedona. They learned complex choreography and danced along side some of the best dancers in the world. In addition the Sedona community and tourists were able to watch a world- class production. This event is in line with the Sedona Community Plan ratified in March 2014. This plan calls for increased opportunities that contribute to quality of life for residents and enriched visitor experiences. In addition, the Plan identifies the need to elevate Sedona to an international destination for arts education and engagement. This event is on target with the Community Plan. Sedona Chamber Ballet continues to provide the very best of the best in dance, costumes, choreography, training and production value. The children and the audience was exposed to ballet at its finest and Sedona's young dancers now see the art of the possible in dance. This production recruited 6 more children in addition to the fifteen in past years to the pre-professional study of dance here in Sedona and in Phoenix. Each year young children are introduced to the very best of ballet and learn to understand the discipline and commitment it takes to become a dancer. The children who decide to pursue more training are given the opportunity to study with some of the best teachers in America through the Phoenix Ballet collaboration. Jessica LeBlanc a Sedona resident was once again accepted into Ballet West Summer Intensive (a highly competitive program), Mari Chang, 12, dances with Olga Tarasova (considered one of the best teachers in the country) 5 days a week and made her debut as Clara this year and place third in the world renown Youth America Grand Prix in classical ballet, and MJ, age 10 is dancing with Phoenix Ballet 4 days a week and aspires to the role of Fritz in the coming production. Four other local dance students have made the commitment to study ballet with Master Ballet Academy in Scottsdale as well.$10,000$44,383
